In one of the most boring first halves on the season, Deportivo fought against the stats and managed to score goals in the second half, while Luisinho broke his particular spell with the Riazor.

The six notes from the game against Málaga CF:

1- Bad approaches, bad game: The match was tedious, mainly in the first half. Pepe Mel planned a game based on the wings, but there was a disconnection between the wingers and the side defenders, while the game by the centre was simply inexistent. For this reason the heat map in the first half clearly showed a team broke in two parts, right and left with no presence at midfield.

Luckily for Depor the rival was also failing, Míchel presented a 4-2-3-1 formation that was more a 5-3-2 figure with three centre-backs and with Sandro coming from behind giving freedom to Chory Castro. The Andalusians presented a defensive team that wasn’t expecting to have the ball, as a result they barely created any harm in the first part, and therefore the Riazor witnessed one of the most boring first halves on this season.

2- The side defenders: With the midfielders and the wingers off, the game was once again in the shoulders of the side defenders. Thus Juanfran (65) and Luisinho (63) were the players with more touches at Deportivo. Combined both released 14 of the 25 crosses made by Depor in the game and both goals came as the consequence of these actions.

3- The spell of Luisinho: Weird situation of Luisinho when he plays at the Riazor. He was a starter in the opening game against SD Eibar (2-1) and since then Depor were unable to win a home game with the Portuguese on the pitch. The team missed the victory in the ten previous home games in which he played, while it won the fourth matches in which he was out or on the bench. This win broke the spell.

4- Scoring in the second half: The 0-0 at half-time was not good news for Deportivo, because the Galicians are the second team that scores lesser goals in the final part, luckily they found the net twice in the final part. Now they have scored 16 of its 35 goals in the final 45 minutes (45.7% of the total). Only Valencia CF present a worse percentage (40.4%).

5- Seven clean sheet on the season: For the seventh opportunity on this season Depor didn’t concede any goal, it’s also the fourth clean sheet in 2017. Only seven clubs in la liga have clinched less clean sheet than Depor.

6- Heading the ball home: The first goal in the game came in cross by Luisinho that Joselu headed into the back of the net, it’s the 11th goal scored by Deportivo using the head. The Blanquiazul outfit is now the third team in la liga with more goals with the head, they are only behind Real Madrid (23) and Real Sociedad (14).
