PREVIEW: OSASUNA - DEPORTIVO (LIGA)

30 Apr 2017
Disappointing season, but Deportivo only need one more victory to certify the permanence. The rival is already relegated after the bad choices with the coaches and the countless injury cases.

Referee: Alejandro José Hernández Hernández
Kick-off: 12h00 CET (El Sadar)

STATISTICS: ONLY THREE MORE POINTS
With Sporting Gijón losing on Friday visiting Villarreal CF (3-1), Deportivo only need three more points in order to mathematically secure the permanence.  A point isn’t enough as it will leave the Galicians eight points above demotion with three games to go.

CA Osasuna arrive to the game already relegated and only with 18 points added so far, it’s the second worst mark among the top five leagues in Europe, only above Serie A side Delfino Pescara 1936 (14). The Navarrans could even end with the lowest mark of points in la liga during this century, the current worst mark is the 20 points added by Córdoba CF during the season 2014/15.

Los Rojillos are also the team that has allowed more goals in the top five leagues in Europe: 82. This is also the worst mark in la liga during this century and the worst record since CD Logroñes ended allowing 85 goals during the season 1996/97, with the observation that at that time each side in la liga was playing 42 games.

Deportivo have lost in four of its last nine visits to El Sadar. The last victory in Pamplona for the Blanquiazul outfit was for the season 2007/08. It was a 0-1 win with a goal scored by Sergio (April 20, 2008).

DEPORTIVO: THE LAST STEP
Tough week for Deportivo, two defeats and a hard criticism towards the players coming from the fans, who seem already tired of the lack of the passion from a team that continues to commit the same errors. This toxic environment seems to have reached the changing room as the coach already had strong towards after the recent poor performances, while the major part of the squad has preferred to keep silence.

Luckily for Deportivo, this is promising to be the cheaper permanence on this century. 34 points will be enough to secure the goal, and it could even be lower if the bottom clubs continue to fail. So, Deportivo travel to Pamplona dragging anxiety, but knowing that one more victory is enough to certify one more year at the elite.

Team news: Carles Gil (groin) and German Lux (thigh) passed a late test and were included in the roster for the game. The players at the injury room are Sidnei Rechel, Pedro Mosquera and Joselu. Fayçal Fajr & Gaël Kakuta are out for tactical reasons, while Fabril’s centre-back Nacho Monsalve is part of the list.

Man to watch: Midfielder Celso Borges. The Central American returns after been rested against Real Madrid and Depor need his guide in a game that represents the first opportunity to secure the permanence. He can be decisive at the moment of scoring the goals in this game. Deportivo have scored 35% of their goals from headers, the highest percentage of any team in the competition, and this is one of the stronger points of Borges, which turns to be interesting as Osasuna is the liga outfit that has conceded more headed goals on this campaign (19).

Picked players: (19) Lux, Tytoń, Davy Roef (goalkeepers); Laure, Juanfran, Albentosa, Arribas, Monsalve, Navarro, Luisinho (defenders); Álex Bergantiños, Borges, Guilherme, Çolak, Bruno Gama, Carles Gil, Ola John (midfielders); Marlos Moreno & Andone (attackers).

Predicted lineup: (4-2-3-1) Lux – Juanfran, Arribas, Albentosa, Luisinho – Guilherme, Borges – Bruno Gama, Çolak, Ola John – Andone.

OSASUNA: THREE COACHES, THREE MISTAKES
The president of CA Osasuna, Luis Sabalza, said after the relegation was confirmed that his main mistake was related to the three coaches that directed the team during this season. And that seems to be a key point in the current disaster, no one trusted in Enrique Martín despite conquering the promotion on last season, and he was fired at the first opportunity.

The worst mistake that a club can make is to go backwards at the moment of replacing a coach, and that’s what happened at the Navarran club. And it’s that Martin’s replacement was Joaquín Caparrós, who sunk a ship that had better chances of salvation before his arrival as the ex-Depor man lost 7 of the 8 games with him on board, later unexperienced Petar Vasiljević was a desperate solution that never changed the outcome.

Team news: Another factor that affected the season of CA Osasuna was the injuries, which hit the club all season long and the game with Depor is a new demonstration of it. Eight players are out of the meeting with the Galicians for this reason: centre-backs Tano Bonnín (fibula fracture), Nikola Vujadinović (muscle), Miguel Flaño (knee ligaments) and David García (quadriceps), attacker Emmanuel Rivière (muscle), centre midfielders Didier Digard (knee) and Raoul Loé (muscle) plus striker Oriol Riera (adductor).

Man to watch: Striker Kenan Kodro. The only good news for CA Osasuna on this season was the appearance of attackers Sergio León and Kenan Kodro, the latter is the son of Meho Kodro and has impressed whit his performances and his recent good form. The 23-year-old attacker has scored six goals on the Primera campaign, four of those goals came within his last eight appearances in la liga.

Picked players: (18) Nauzet Pérez, Sirigu (goalkeepers); Javier Flaño, Oier, Fuentes, Clerc, Aitor Buñuel, Steven Mondragón (defenders); Čaušić, Roberto Torres, Berenguer, Fausto Tienza, Jaime, Fran Mérida, De las Cuevas, Olavide (midfielders); Sergio León & Kenan Kodro (attackers)

Predicted lineup: (3-5-2) Sirigu – Oier, Mondragón, Fuentes – Buñuel, Fausto, Roberto Torres, Čaušić, Clerc – Sergio León, Kodro.
