Nothing was defined in this matchday, the title, the fourth place, the Europa League places and the last spot for relegation remain open in la liga.

All the fronts remain open with only two matchdays to go in the Spanish la liga. The results almost closed some of the fights, but for now the only mathematical facts are that Granada CF and CA Osasuna are already relegated.

The fight for the title remains in the same place after both Real Madrid and FC Barcelona achieved easy wins. The Madrilenians trashed Granada CF on the road (0-4), while the Catalans didn’t suffer too much before Villarreal CF (4-1).

Atlético Madrid clinched a narrow win entertaining SD Eibar (1-0) and Los Colchoneros already know that they will play the next Champions League, but in order to avoid the preliminary round they need to secure the third place, currently they have a five-point difference over Sevilla CF, side that only got a point hosting Real Sociedad (1-1).

The Andalusians seem condemned to play the preliminary round of the Champions League, though it is not yet definitive as they have a six-point gap with Villarreal CF with six points in dispute. Since the games between both sides ended in goalless draws, then a possible tie would be broken with the goal difference and Villarreal CF (+21) have the advantage over los Rojiblancos (+18).

But Villarreal CF haven’t secured European football on next season, currently they are fifth, but only one point above Athletic Club and Real Sociedad.  Athletic Club missed the big chance to enter into European zone after a 1-0 defeat visiting Deportivo Alavés.

The situation at the top of the standings:

place team points GF GA
1 Barcelona 84 108 34
2 Real Madrid 84 96 39
3 Atlético 74 66 25
4 Sevilla 69 63 45
5 Villarreal 63 53 32
6 Athletic 62 51 39
7 Real Sociedad 62 55 49
8 Eibar 54 54 46

Meanwhile, the same three clubs are still trying to secure the permanence. CD Leganés gave a huge step forward with a 4-0 win at home before Real Betis. Deportivo remain in depression and dropped a good chance to end the suffering after a disappointing 1-2 loss before RCD Espanyol. Sporting Gijón are still alive with a 1-0 win over UD Las Palmas. These three clubs are only separated by six points.

The remaining two games in the matchday won’t change the picture. Valencia CF trashed already relegated CA Osasuna (4-1), while Málaga CF didn’t face any problem to dispatch a RC Celta (3-0) that’s only thinking of the semi-final in the Europa League:

The situation at the bottom of the standings:

place team points GF GA
16 Leganés 33 34 53
17 Deportivo 32 40 61
18 Sporting 27 39 70
19 Granada 20 28 78
20 Osasuna 19 38 88

Seven of the eight games will be disputed at the same time as la liga reaches the final stage. Real Madrid face a tough challenge hosting Sevilla CF, while FC Barcelona visit an unstable UD Las Palmas. The permanence is at stake with Deportivo facing the tough visit to Villarreal CF, Sporting Gijón visit SD Eibar, and CD Leganés do the same with Athletic Club.

The matchday is completed with other five games: RCD Espanyol Vs. Valencia CF; CA Osasuna Vs. Granada CF; Deportivo Alavés Vs. RC Celta; Real Betis Vs. Atlético Madrid & Real Sociedad Vs. Málaga CF.
