Deportivo improved compared to the previous defeat with Real Madrid, Andone didn’t have his night and the three debutants left a positive impression. The Galicians have missed 6 of their last 7 penalties.

The seven notes from the game with Real Madrid:

1- Defeat, but positive feelings: It is not encouraging to start a league season losing 0-3 at home, but taking in mind that the rival was a Real Madrid coming from winning everything, the true is that it could have been worse. And it’s that Depor didn’t play a bad game, it was more dangerous in the first half and created more scoring opportunities than the rival. Truly in some stages there was a disconnection between defence an attack, something that only accentuated the huge ball possession for the visiting side, but the impression left was much better than the disaster of last season facing Madrid’s replacements.

2- Accuracy at both goals: Pepe Mel said that the game was defined by the punch at both areas and the stats confirm his idea. It’s weird to lose a game 0-3 after having more chances than the rival, but that was what happened before Real Madrid. Deportivo wasted three one-on-one plays, a header was saved at the goal line, it hit the crossbar once and even wasted a penalty. Seven clear opportunities and zero goals. Meanwhile, the Madrilenians scored in their first three opportunities and ended the game with five clear chances.

3- Bad night for Andone: Big part of the fault for not scoring a goal was in the shoulders of Andone. The top-scorer of last season didn’t have his night this time, he missed two one-on-one plays when the score was 0-0, later saw how Ramos was blocking his header with the 0-2 in the scoresheet, and later wasted a third one-on-one when the game was 0-3, and the Romanian closed the unfaithful night wasting a penalty. Totally, he completed 7 shots, 6 of them were on target and were saved between Keylor Navas and Ramos.

4- The doubts at the goal: Pepe Mel expressed his doubts on last week regarding the goalkeeper position and he has been insisting in singing a new man despite already having two goalies, and his doubts were ratified in the first shot on target suffered by Depor in the new season. Ruben Martínez should have caught the ball in the attempt by Modrić, instead the ball hit his cheat and it just opened the gate to Madrid’s fest.

5- The drama of the penalties: Another missed penalty by Deportivo. The Galicians have failed in six of their last seven shots from the spot in liga. Celso Borges has been the only men that has scored a penalty for Depor in 2017 (March 08, 1-1 Vs Betis). Joselu, Babel, Emre Çolak, Fajr, Borges and Andone were the six men missing their shots.

6- Bakkali, Cartabia and Schär: The three debutants left a positive impression, Bakkali gave problems on the left wing, Cartabia was working between the lines and, despite some missed passes, he was combining with the other attackers, while Schär was important in defence making five clearances and two interceptions.

7- The referee: A lot has been said during the week about the decisions of the referees in the games between Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, Los Blancos have complained of unfair decisions lately, but the true is that the rest of teams always seem to be affected in some degree when they face the big ones. It cannot be said that José Luis González González was to blame for the defeat, but the fans feel frustrated after realizing that Sergio Ramos should have been sent off for his clash with Schär, and only one minute later the defender was saving Depor’s first goal after a header by Andone (58’)
