Midfielder Juan Dominguez announced hi exit from Depor, it was expected since he didn’t play any minute in the pre-season. He rescinded his contract and will now sign for Segunda club Reus.

Juan Dominguez has rescinded his contract with Deportivo. The midfielder wasn’t counting for coach Pepe Mel and his exit was expected, though it lasted a couple of weeks. He didn’t play any minute in the pre-season and wasn’t even included in the concentration at Vilalba, but it was until Tuesday that the player announced that he has reached an agreement to cancel his contract and that he is on his way to sign for Segunda club CF Reus.

He offered a press conference in which he read a short letter and didn’t take questions from reporters. The player said that, “As you know, I am leaving to Reus and am only pending of the medicals. It seems that it was yesterday when, been 14, Deportivo proposed me to join Cadetes at Abegondo, 12 seasons later, and after 170 games with the first team, I say good-bye to the club. I want to thank the partners, coaches, the past and the current board of directors, all the staff, and everybody that trusted me. Without you, I wouldn’t achieve it. A big hug and Forza Depor.”

Juan Dominguez was early detected by the scouts of Deportivo. He started his career playing at Narón Balompé, the club from his hometown, he never thought in playing the game as a professional, so he was surprised when he was warned of the interest coming from Racing de Ferrol, and more when he realized that Depor have put their eyes on him.

At Deportivo, the Pontedeume-born player started at Cadetes section and was soon promoted to Juvenil A, then he called the attention of the coaching staff and was even picked, together with David Rochela, to Spain U-15 & U-16 squad (2006).  Even Joaquin Caparrós noticed him and the midfielder made the pre-season 2006/07 with the first team, which took place in Isla Canela

And Dominguez debuted with the first team during a friendly game against Andalusian club Lepe (3-0 win, July 26th, 2006). It was the Centenario season of the club and he was part of a list of five youngsters debuting with the team. For the regular season, he returned to Juvenil A and a few months later he was picked to Spain’s U-17 squad. He was evolving so rapidly that by April of 2007 he was already debuting with Fabril during the visit to Lalin.

By the end of the season the midfielder had a mark of 88 minutes with the B squad of Depor (4 games played). In 2008 Dominguez was officially promoted to Fabril and also received his first call to Spain’s U-18 squad. At the time, the club had so much confidence on the midfielder that ex-president Lendoiro signed a five-year deal with him (October 16), a thing only reserved to future starts.

Then, for the season 2009/10, Miguel Angel Lotina was fulfilling his third season at Deportivo, and decided to count with the player for the pre-season. The coach was so content that it was rumoured that Juan Dominguez was going to be a starter for the opening match at Real Madrid, but in the end the Basque manager decided that the best thing was to go step by step and the player stayed at Fabril for the next four months. At that team, he contributed for the return to Segunda B as he played 12 games (1,014 minutes) scoring three goals and giving one assist. At the end of the year 2009 it was informed that the player had the H1N1 virus, but it didn’t stop him to fulfill the dream of playing in la liga.

And the big day for Dominguez came on December 13th, 2010 as he debuted at Primera División playing as starter for 56 minutes during the visit to UD Almeria. Since that day the midfielder started a career of ups and downs with the first team, he was crucial in the two seasons with Depor at Segunda (74 appearances between the seasons 2011/12 & 2013/14), but later was quickly displaced by other players when the team competing at the elite.

For the season 2015/16, Juan Dominguez saw how his presence in liga was evaporated. He was the fourth centre midfielder at the team, and even at times the coach preferred to play with Fajr in that role. It neither helped his continuous physical problems (the last one an ankle sprain that sidelined for the last two matchdays). In the end, the Galician player only had 185 minutes distributed in 5 games and only touched the ball in 94 opportunities during the whole season. Then he was loaned to RCD Mallorca only to see how the team suffered the relegation to Segunda B.

Among the players under contract, this is the seventh exit from the first team during the summer window. Previously Pablo Insua was transferred to Schalke 04, Álex Bergantiños was loaned to Sporting Gijón and Róber to Levante UD, while Oriol Riera, Laure and Fayçal Fajr rescinded their contracts.

Juan Dominguez played 34 games with Fabril, plus 171 with the first team (84 Primera, 74 Segunda & 13 in Copa Del Rey)
