NOTES FROM THE GAME VS ALAVÉS

22 Sep 2017
Deportivo didn’t convince, but the victory could be understood as a needed release of pressure for the players. Valverde left a positive impression and even infected Luisinho.

The seven notes from the game Vs. Alavés:

1- Not convincing, but a good start: The victory cannot hide the fact that this Deportivo is not a team that can aspire to big things, but still it’s a good start. Some of the players are still trying to adapt to their positions and, despite the weakness of the rival, Deportivo had big problems to create scoring opportunities, especially in the first part.

The team had the ball possession for the first time on the season (53%), but it only created seven chances to score and only completed three shots on target. Very poor numbers taking in mind that Alavés is a team in crisis that conceded a lot of things. It might not be enough to face the rest of the competition in la liga, but the first win could be the release of pressure that the players needed.

2- The freshness of Fede Valverde:Perhaps the best news from the game was to witness the first game as a starter of Fede Valverde in la liga. The Uruguayan completed a rounded match and at times even looked like the men with the clearer ideas despite been the youngest. He had an acceptable pass ratio (80%) and created three chances to score, even completed three shots, and this taking in mind that he didn’t seem comfortable performing as a left winger. Mel can opt in moving him into the centre for future games.

3- The contribution from Luisinho One of the most complete games by Luisinho at Depor, and not only for the fact of scoring the winning goal. And it’s that he completed two tackles and two interceptions, and later helped a lot in attack, to the point of been the only player with two shots on target. Big part of this has to do with the presence of Valverde in front of him, it was common to see the couple combining, especially in the second half.

4- Again Juanfran was the player with more touches: The right-back was the player with more touches in the game (84), it is the fourth time after five games on the league season. It once again reveals the problems in the output of the ball for Depor. Still, the fluency in the second half provoked by the weakness of the rival reduced the impact of the situation. Borges only made one less touch and Schär also contributed in the output of the ball. But, the team needs to move the axis of the game to midfield.

5- Schär and the output of the ball: Schär performed now on the left side of the defence, it was previously noticed the potential in the accuracy of his long passes, but this time the Swiss also helped with the output of the ball running the transition defence-attack. An interesting option when the rival isn’t putting too much pressure at midfield.

6- The good moment of Cartabia: Again Cartabia was the most dangerous player in attack, this time the Argentine didn’t have any clear chance to score, but created two opportunities and Depor always seem different when he is driving the ball. He has been the most constant player in this start of season.

7- The couple Andone-Lucas: A lot of expectation to see both strikers playing together for the first time on this season (they did it once on last season), but everything ended in disappointment. Lucas didn’t feel plugged and left the pitch without completing a shot, while Andone was more active, to the point of making the assist in the goal, but the point is that, for now, it doesn’t seem that Andone and Lucas can play at the same time.
