REACTIONS TO THE FIRST WIN ON THE SEASON

22 Sep 2017
The coach and the players were happy with the result, Mel admitted that it’s also a relief for the players. Alavés’ coach was also satisfied despite his team remains winless and scoreless.

Coach Pepe Mel liked his team and commented the game, “Today, everything has positive valorizations. The negative issue was the injury of Adrián. But today, three points, important, clean sheet, important. I believe we played well and generated football and chances. Players earned minutes and everything was positive, now we have three quiet days to prepare the game in Barcelona and time to start moving on.”

“We knew that we couldn’t allow the counterattacks by Alavés, with Burgui and Munir and Medrán. We lost that way in Seville and against Real Sociedad. We had to grew up little by little, but you should notice the first shot by Munir came until minute 42, then their corner. Later they didn’t have more chances. We did what we should, and the pity was that we had three or four chances for the second goal and we didn’t’ score it, so we suffered until the end.” He added.

The Madrilenian coach said that the first win on the season isn’t fresh air for him, but admitted that his players are more relieved, “Not me, when you’re a coach you don’t look for yourself. I just look the players talking to each other, smiling and putting music at the changing room. They removed a torn and has nothing to do with what happened in other games. Tomorrow we will surely train more joyful. Now it’s time to move on.”

He said to not have any problem with Lucas, who didn’t like his substitution at the middle of the second half, “It’s normal. I talked to him when he arrived. He had the burden of been injured for two months. He didn’t make the pre-season and look to Adrian, we cannot afford that, for been five or ten more minutes on the pitch, you end injured and are later stopped for two months. A muscle problem means to stop for two months and to start from zero. He played 30 minutes first, later other 30 minutes and today 60, and on Sunday there’s a new game, so this isn’t over. I understand his anxiety and I thank his will, but I am here to think of what will come later, and not only for the match with Alavés.”

Finally, Mel admitted the important of Fabian Schär, “Since his arrival it adds important things: he brings tranquillity, provides an output for the ball, changes the orientation of the game with one move, he leaves alone a partner with a pass, and does this changing the profile, because before he played on the right with Sidnei and now does it on the left with Arribas. But I am not only happy with him, but with the rest too.”

Luisinho was saying that Depor deserved the victory, “We are happy for everything. We were aware that we had to win this game and are content with these three points that we wanted so hard. We knew it was going to be a tense game because both sides were needing the points, so it was a close game. We controlled the meeting since the first minute and until the end, so it was a deserved victory.”

The Portuguese, who was among the best players in the game, was happy with his goal, “I am content with the goal. It is my first at Primera and am happy for helping Deportivo to win the game. It was important to win the game.”

Juanfran Moreno was emphasizing the first clean sheet on the season, “It was important for us to get the victory, but it was more important to do it in this way: with a clean sheet, and with a more serious team, compact and competing for ninety minutes. We only conceded a long range shot and a corner. It was important to win, but also the ways to do it. We cut the negative rally regarding goals allowed.”

“Today Alavés, side that was also in need as us, were never able to pull us into our side of the field, we were always brave and attacked. Each day the players are better and therefore I am content.” The Madrilenian right-back added.

At Alavés, coach Javier Cabello was content with the performance of his team despite the Basques remain winless and scoreless, “We made a good first part, we made a step forward and were a daring team that tried to create problems and win the game, we did it right as we created opportunities and were unfortunate to allow the goal in the stoppage time of the first part.”

“In the second half we were disorganized, but the team had a pounding attitude and courage and until the last second the lads tried to revert the defeat. It is a step forward from what we were doing, but it’s clear that it isn’t enough. I feel satisfied for the fight of the team, with this attitude, I am sure we are going to move forward with the situation.” He added.
