Depor anxiously need the victory in what could be the last game of Pepe Mel at the club. The coach could return to play with a 4-4-2 facing a rival coming from a refreshing victory, but affected by injures.

Referee: Xavier Estrada Fernández
Kick-off: 13h00 CET (Riazor)

Getafe CF seem to be enjoying the return to the elite, while Depor continue to suffer. The big difference between both realities is located at their defensive sectors. The Madrilenians have only allowed five goals, which is the fifth best mark in the league, only below FC Barcelona (2), Sevilla CF (3), CD Leganés (3) and Atlético Madrid (4).  Only FC Barcelona were able to score twice against them.

Meanwhile, The Galicians have conceded fifteen goals, it’s the worst mark in the league with Los Blanquiazules allowing at least two goals in five of the six games played so far. The fifteen goals allowed also means the worst mark at the club after the first six matchdays at Primera tied with the performance in the campaigns 2014/15 & 1968/69.

Another negative stat for Depor is that Getafe CF have added points in the last seven visits to the Riazor. Los Azulones clinched four draws and three wins in the period, including winning the last two games played there.

A dark cloud is surrounding Deportivo, the bad results and especially the poor impression left by the team is causing a deep depression among the fans and the first one to pay the price could be Pepe Mel. The Madrilenian coach is feeling the pressure and was told during the week that his continuity not only depends on the result in this game, but also of the team’s performance.

In the last training before the game Mel tested a radical team leaving Fede Cartabia and Florin Andone on the bench, while Edu Expósito and Borja Valle were starters. Despite changes were expected, the scheme worked in the trainings won’t be the lineup for the game, the best proof is that Raúl Albentosa and Bruno Gama were also tested as starters, and later both were not even picked for the match. In the end it’s probable that the coach will switch into a 4-4-2 figure.

Team news: Four players remain at the injury room: Rubén Martinez, Carles Gil, Pedro Mosquera and Adrián López. Meanwhile, Sidnei Rechel and Zakaria Bakkali were recalled after skipping the last games. Right-back Gerard Valentín was picked for the first time on the season. The players out for tactical reasons are Albentosa, Bruno Gama and Saúl Fernández.

Man to watch: Playmaker Fede Cartabia. The most in-form man at Deportivo, the Argentine has been a starter in all the liga games and already scored twice, more importantly the attack is looking more dangerous when the ball is passing through his boots.

Picked players: (19) Tytoń, Pantilimon (goalkeepers); Juanfran, Gerard Valentín, Arribas, Sidnei, Schär, Luisinho, Navarro (defenders); Guilherme, Borges, Fede Valverde, Çolak, Cartabia, Bakkali, Edu Expósito (midfielders); Borja Valle, Lucas Pérez & Andone (attackers).

Predicted lineup: (4-4-2) Pantilimon – Juanfran, Schär, Sidnei, Luisinho – Cartabia, Guilherme, Borges, Valverde - Lucas, Andone.

The tactic of coach José Bordalás has always been simple: to play with a balanced team that allows the lesser number of goals and that later tries to score. And that simple tactic is working so far as the Madrilenians are among the best defensive lines in liga, which later allow them to seize the few goals that are scored (8, only one more than Depor). Thus, Getafe are currently tenth at the standings.

With the goal for the season been clinching the permanence, the team is feeling confident as they already have a five-point mattress with relegation after a convincing 4-0 win over Villarreal CF. Now, Bordalás needs to extend the effect of this tactic and increase the confidence avoiding the problems caused by the casualties.

Team news: There are five casualties due to injury reasons: Attackers Dani Pacheco (shoulder) and Gaku Shibasaki (fissure), winger Jefferson Montero (muscle), keeper Filip Manojlović (injury not specified) plus centre-back Nicolás Gorosito (injury not specified). Also, midfielder Fayçal Fajr is unavailable due to a clause in his contract. Defender Diego Barri from Getafe B was picked in order to fill up the gaps.

Man to watch: Attacker Ángel Rodriguez. He started as a replacement that was going to have some minutes on the season, but the casualties hitting the attack meant a big opportunity that the Canarian is seizing. He had only played ten minutes before the past weekend, suddenly he scored three goals within the last two games, including a brace before Villarreal CF, and now he is a starter playing behind Jorge Molina.

Picked players: (18) Emi Martínez, Guatia (goalkeepers); Dakonam Djené, Antunes, Bruno González, Molinero, Juan Cala, Damián Suárez, Diego Barri (defenders); Martín Bergara, Álvaro Jiménez, Francisco Portillo, Sergio Mora, Mauro Arambarri (midfielders); Ángel Rodríguez, Chuli, Amath Ndiaye & Jorge Molina (attackers).

Predicted lineup: (4-2-3-1) Guatia – Damián Suárez, Djené, Cala, Antunes – Bergara, Arambarri – Jiménez, Ángel, NDiaye – Jorge Molina.
