PREVIEW: LAS PALMAS – DEPORTIVO (COPA)

29 Nov 2017
Parralo punished Arribas and Andone, while he picked five lads from Fabril. The rival has a comfortable advantage, but it’s about to sack the coach.

Referee: Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea
Kick-off: 21h30 CET (Estadio de Gran Canaria)

STATISTICS: IMPOSSIBLE?
After the debacle at the Riazor (1-4), Deportivo need a 4-0 win in order to pass the round in Copa Del Rey. The Galicians already did it in the past, it was for the Copa campaign 1931/32, the team lost 4-1 visiting Racing Santander in the first-leg of the first round, and in the retuning match they turned back the situation with a 5-0 win at the old Riazor.

It’s seems hard that Depor can repeat the feat of 80 years ago, but the true is that the team won 1-3 at Estadio de Gan Canaria playing for la liga just a few days after the first-leg. Still, the Galicians need four goals, a number they don’t score in an away game in Copa since the season 2002/03 (3-4 win at Racing Ferrol).

DEPORTIVO: ONE STEP FORWARD, TWO STEPS BACKWARDS
The team now coached by Cristóbal Parralo is giving little steps in each game, but it’s also facing new obstacles. For the game it was expected that Luisinho was going to return after a suspension, while Bruno Gama was going to have a chance to play after not counting since the arrival of the new coach, but both picked inopportune injuries on Monday and are out of the meeting.

At the same time there was an incident on Monday’s training between Arribas and Andone, the defender fouled the striker during a game practice and the coach had to suspend the session after both men started to argue. It wasn’t a serious incident, but on Tuesday both men were training apart and weren’t picked for the match.  In the end Parralo admitted that he is more concern of the liga game in Seville, so he is resting normal starters and decided to pick five lads from Fabril.

Team news: Juanfran Moreno is suspended after been sent off in the first-leg, while the four players at the injury room are Bakkali, Sidnei, Luisinho and Bruno Gama.  With Andone and Arribas out for punishment, the men that are rested are Borges, Fede Valverde, Fede Cartabia and Albentosa. Then the five players from Fabril are:  Edu Expósito, Óscar García, Steve One, Blas Alonso & Quique Fornos.

Man to watch: Winger Óscar García. The Fabril’s lad missed the last two games with his team due to an injury, and now he returns in time to have a chance as a starter. Pointed as one of the most talented players at the B squad, he wants to demonstrate things after scoring four goals plus providing two assists in fourteen games at Segunda B.

Picked players: (18) Pantilimon, Tytoń (goalkeepers); Gerard Valentín, Blas Alonso, Schär, Steve One, Quique Fornos, Navarro, Saúl Fernández (defenders); Pedro Mosquera, Guilherme, Edu Expósito, Çolak, Carles Gil, Óscar García (midfielders); Borja Valle, Adrián & Lucas Pérez (attackers).

Predicted lineup: (4-2-3-1) Pantilimon – Gerard Valentín, Fornos, Schär, Navarro - Guilherme, Edu Expósito – Óscar García, Borja Valle, Adrián – Lucas.

LAS PALMAS: UNCOMFORTABLE SITUATION FOR THE COACH
Coach Pako Ayestarán is at the edge of destitution, his team remains in relegation and he only saved the job for picking a point in the visit to Real Sociedad (2-2), but the media is convinced he is going to be sacked sooner or later, and are even mentioning the game of his substitute: Paco Jémez.

The former player of Depor has just ended his link with Mexican club Cruz Azul and is set to return to Spain, he even admitted on Monday that he is going to return some day to Las Palmas (he coached the team for the season 2010/11). So, the attention at the Canary Islands is set in the next liga game hosting Real Betis and in who will be the net coach, something that’s normal taking in mind the three-goal lead in the Copa series.

Team news: There are two casualties due to injury reasons: winger Momo, who is out until January due to a back injury, plus playmaker Alen Halilović, who is out until 2018 after been operated from an ankle injury. . Striker Oussama Tannane is recovered from an adductor injury and was included in the roster.

Man to watch: Striker Jonathan Calleri. The Argentine entered as a substitute in the first-leg and scored a brace in a frame of ten minutes.  He has scored two goals in liga, but both were netted back in September, now he will be a starter searching for redemption.

Picked players: (18) Raúl Lizoain, Chichizola (goalkeepers); David Simón, Michel, Borja Herrera, Aythami, Bigas, Ximo Navarro (defenders); Vicente Gómez, Samper, Hernán, Javi Castellano, Aquilani (midfielders); Remy, Calleri, Toledo, Oussama & Vitolo (attackers).

Predicted lineup: (4-2-3-1) Chichizola - David Simón, Bigas, Aythami, Borja Herrera - Samper, Hernán - Hernán, Vicente Gómez, Vitolo - Calleri.
