Very important victory for a Deportivo that was superior to a harmless rival that didn’t complete a shot on target. The Galicians never suffered, but lacked aim to conquer a bigger score.

Coach Cristobal Parralo presented the expected 4-2-3-1 figure. Rubén Martínez was the starting keeper, Juanfran Moreno covered the right side in defence, the left was for Fernando Navarro, while the centre-backs were Sidnei and Fabian Schär.

Guilherme and Celso Borges were the centre midfielders, Carles Gil attacked from the right wing, Adrián López did it from the left, Emre Çolak was the playmaker and Lucas Pérez was the centre forward.

At CD Leganés, Asier Garitano surprised as Nordin Amrabat started the game on the bench, instead Nabil El Zhar was moved into the right wing, Alexander Szymanowski attacked from the left and Claudio Beauvue was the centre forward.

Sold first half by Deportivo, the team didn’t commit any error in defence and was patient enough to score a goal in their first big opportunity. It also helped to this scenario the lack of depth of a rival that didn’t complete a shot on target.

The game started with Depor having the ball, the visiting side only completed one pass in the attacking half within the first five minutes, the first approximation for the locals came at minute 5, it was a counterattack in which Lucas put the ball inside the area, but neither Carles Gil nor Borges found the way to shot on target.

Depor were moving the ball at will, but later the locals missed to find a crack in a solid defensive line. Leganés were content holding on and trying to release the counterattack, but later they missed ideas as the plays were ending in long throws searching for Szymanowski.

So, at the middle of the first part the fans at the Riazor were still waiting to witness a chance to score by both teams. Some of the fans started to whistle as the local midfielders were constantly searching for the defenders as they weren’t finding a road to the opposite goal.

Leganés first approximation was a cross from Diego Rico that Rubén Martínez punched out (22’), and then Depor scored the first -and only- goal in the game. Çolak collected the ball at the edge of the area and released a strong shot that visiting goalie Pichi Cuéllar punched out, the ball was going into the path of Lucas at the edge of the box, and then between Cuéllar and Raúl García made a weird deflection that turned into a volley that Adrián López found at the far post to end heading the ball in.

The game didn’t change after the goal and Adrián was close to score again, he collected a pass at the edge of the area and his low attempt was cleared by Cuellar to corner-kick (30’). Two minutes later Guilherme collected the ball at the right corner of the area and his strong shot went out close to the crossbar.

Leganés’ first approximation in the game came until minute 33, Gabriel Pies collected the ball at the edge of the area, and he missed the target after the challenge by Navarro.  The Madrilenians also had a chance at the last minute, it was a corner-kick in which Bustinza headed the ball out (44’).

The locals deserved more in this final part, the Galicians had the best opportunities and even Carles Gil met the woodwork. Çolak lead a team that didn’t have any problem as the rival never had an opportunity.

CD Leganés tried to push since the start in the second part, but Depor were also trying to attack and the Galicians continued having the ball possession. They were passing the ball at midfield and continued looking as the most dangerous side on the pitch. Mainly thanks to Emre Çolak, the most active player on the pitch and who always looked dangerous with his combinations with Adrián and Carles Gil.

Depor should have scored the second goal at minute 52, Guilherme stole the ball at midfield and, after a cross from Juanfran at the right wing, Çolak was alone at the other side of the area, but he sent the ball over the crossbar.

The game earned speed with the passage of the minutes, Amrabat entered and was constantly attacking the side of Juanfran, while Depor were still looking dangerous with their passing game and the accuracy of . Çolak, Adrián and Carles Gil.

A new chance for Depor came at minute 65, a cross from Juanfran was found by Adrián inside the area, but later neither the Asturian nor Lucas were able to find the ball. One minute later Carles Gil hit the crossbar, it was an impressive curved shot after a corner-kick. Cuéllar was already defeated.

Borges had the next opportunity at minute 74, he collected the ball at the right side of the area and his low attempt was cleared by Cuéllar. One minute later Carles Gil attempted the same curved shot that hit the woodwork, but this time he missed the target.

Adrián had a new chance at minute 81, he collected a pass from Lucas, but his attempt missed the target as the ball passed close to the far post of Cuéllar.  Later the Asturian was replaced by Bakkali, this was the first substitution by Depor in the game. Parralo made his three substitutions within the last ten minutes plus the stoppage time. The other two were the entries of Valverde and Mosquera for Carles Gil and Çolak

Deporivo returned to winning ways and did it facing a harmless rival that didn’t even complete a shot on target. Çolak played a great game and Adrián scored his third goal in his third appearance as a starter at the Riazor.

The result allows the Blanquiazul team to add the fourth win on the season and remain out of relegation. The next game is the visit to FC Barcelona (Camp Nou, Sunday, 20h45 CET).
