Good game by Depor’s lads and only the saves from the visiting keeper prevented a bigger victory. Fabril end the first round at Segunda B with a good performance and the second position.

Gustavo Munúa was still having a long list of casualties: Carlos López, Lucas Viña, Luis, Bicho, Jardel, Queijeiro, Diego Caballo, Edu Expósito and Luismi were all out injured, while right-back Blas Alonso was suspended.  In the end the Uruguayan only had 13 lads available, so five players from Juvenil A were on the bench too: Mujaid, Sergio Ortuño, Sebas Cid, Pablo Porrúa and Álex Boedo.

The lineup was a 4-2-3-1 figure with Francis covering the goal, Quique Fornos performed at the right-back position, Raúl González and Steve One were the centre-backs, Lucas Viña performed at the left flank. Martín Bengoa and Gaizka Martinez were the centre midfielders, Óscar García attacked from the right wing. Jorge Romay was the playmaker, Borja Galán performed on the left wing and Ismael Díaz was the centre forward.

The rival was CD Toledo, a club from Castilla-La Mancha fighting to survive in the league. They had only won four games on the season, but two of those victories came in the previous five meetings. Coach Onésimo Sánchez had in Héctor Figueroa his best reference in attack (7 goals in favour during this campaign).

Good performance from Fabril in the last game of 2017, the team had countless opportunities, but it had to wait until the second half to define the game as visiting goalie Jon Ander also had a solid game with his saves.

The first clear chance to score came at minute 2, a lateral free-kick ended in a perfect pass into the area, Óscar collected the ball and his crossed shot went out close to the far post of visiting goalie Jon Ander.

The first chance for CD Toledo came at minute 11, Charly picked the ball at the edge of the area in a counterattack action, and his curved attempt went over the crossbar. In the next play Borja Galán picked a long throw at the right side of the area and, after dribbling a rival, fired a shot that went out close to the far post.

Fabril were having the ball and didn’t face problems to reach the rival’s area, but later it didn’t find the way to surpass the last defensive line. The next chance to score was a corner-kick in which the cross of Borja Galán was cleared by Jon Ander at the goal line (20’).

At minute 21, Óscar found the ball at the left wing and his strong shot was cleared to corner-kick by Jon Ander. In the next play, the counterattack of CD Toledo ended in their first shot on target, Carlos Steve got the ball at the edge of the area and his low attempt was an easy catch for Francis.

Fabril were focusing their game on the right wing, with Fornos and Borja Galán pretty active in the game. Romay was also having a good game and, at minute 32, he was close to score as his header in a corner-kick was saved by Jon Ander. The locals continued having the ball within the last minutes, but they never seized their opportunities.

The best one came at the last minute of the first part, Óscar collected a pass from Gaizka Martínez and released a low cross from the left, the ball went directly into the path of Ismael Díaz at the penalty spot and his low shot went directly into the legs of Jon Ander.

The second part started with thee corner-kick within the first three minutes (one for Fabril, two for CD Toledo), but without consequences. The first clear chance in the second part came at minute 51, Óscar released a low cross from the right and Ismael Díaz should have scored, but he didn’t connect the ball properly inside the box and it went out.

Two minutes later Romay combined with Borja Galán and later his low shot was saved by Jon Ander. And the locals were going to score the first goal in the game. Ismael Díaz picked the ball at midfield and, after two rebounds, one of them in Óscar, the ball returned to him at the edge of the area, then the Panamanian dribbled two rivals and ended scoring with a crossed shot past Jon Ander.

The game was entertaining, at minute 63, substitute Obed had a chance to score after collecting a cross from the right, but Francis made the save. In the next play Gaizka Martínez attempted with a long-distance shot and Jon Ander made the save.

At minute 69, Borja Galán collected the ball at the edge of the area and his low shot was saved by Jon Ander. The visiting goalie had made seven saves at this point and was the only reason why Fabril weren’t enjoying of a bigger lead.

But the goal that secured the victory arrived soon, Ismael Díaz got the ball at the right wing, he released a low cross that was met by Óscar García inside the box, the winger just pushed the ball in. It is his sixth goal in the league (same number than the Panamanian).

CD Toledo had a new chance at minute 78, Obedo collected a cross from the left and his shot was saved by Francis. Tow minutes later Ismael Díaz made a new solo play, but a defender cleared the danger when he was about to score.

Munúa made the changes until the end, Mujaid and Uxío Dapena replaced Gaizka Martínez and Borja Galán. The locals continued pushing and could have scored the third goal in the stoppage time, this with the chipping attempts of Óscar and Uxío, but in the first Jon Ander deflected the ball (90+1’) and the second missed the target (90+2’).

Great game by Fabril, the team had several opportunities, and only the eight saves by Jon Ander throughout the game prevented a bigger victory. There’s a Christmas break now, the lads ended the first round at the second position and will start 2018 hosting leaders CF Fuenlabrada (January 7).

Comments by Munúa “I’m very happy. The last game of the year was a victory despite the casualties that we had, and the team remains competing. We deserved more in the first half, things were equal in the second, but the goals arrived. We knew how to interpret the game, adapted to the situations and therefore were able to win. We now face a second round to feel hopeful, it’s time to rest and spend the time with the family, so we can return recharged.”
