Another humiliation for Deportivo, the Galicians claimed the lead, but later fell down and ended allowing five goals in the second part.

Coach Cristóbal Parralo chose to play with the expected 4-3-3 figure, which included the debut in liga of Steve One, the 23-year-old centre-back was playing for the first time at Primera after making his debut in Copa at the end of 2017 (2-3 win at UD Las Palmas).

Rubén Martínez was the starting goalie, Juanfran Moreno covered the right side in defence, Luisinho performed at the left, Fabian Schär joined One at the centre of the defence. Pedro Mosquera, Guilherme and Celso Borges were the centre midfielders, Lucas Pérez attacked from the right wing, Adrián López did it from the left and Florin Andone was the centre forward.

At Real Madrid, Borja Mayoral was the main novelty as Zinedine Zidane chose the Madrilenian striker before Isco and Benzema. Toni Kross, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale were the other references in attack.

Depor were lucky to get a goal, but later it was unable to hold one before the hurricane unleashed by a Real Madrid that had a pleasant game in attack. The locals had eight scoring opportunities only in this half and Depor never knew how to stop Marcelo.

As it was expected, Real Madrid had the initiative since the start. Their first opportunity came at minute 4, Cristiano Ronaldo collected a cross from Bale and his header went over the crossbar. The first shot on target came one minute later with Borja Mayoral finalizing a counterattack with a shot from the penalty spot that was blocked by Rubén.

The Madrilenians continued pressing, mainly with long passes searching for Marcelo and Bale. Meanwhile, Depor had problems in the output of the ball. There was room in attack, but the ball wasn’t reaching the path of Andone, while Lucas was fighting alone against the local defence.

Andone had the first approximation for Depor, he collected a long pass from Mosquera, but later the Romanian couldn’t surpass Varane before entering the area (16’). Then Depor surprised in their first big chance in the game.

Andone won the ball at the right wing, he headed the ball into the path of Lucas, who ran towards the area to release a drilling cross that Adrián met at the far post, then the Asturian just pushed the ball in. That was the first -and only- combination between the trident in attack.

Suddenly Depor were leading in the scoresheet, but it only helped to awake a Real Madrid that tuned into a steamroller. Marcelo collected a volley from the left when he was at the edge of the area, then he released a strong shot that missed the target (25’).  Two minutes later Ruben made a big save before the header of Ronaldo, the loose ball couldn’t be headed properly by Mayoral.

At minute 29, a drilling shot of Marcelo was deflected by Ruben, the ball hit the post and returned into the keeper. Some good luck for the Galicians in that action, but the equalizer arrived in the next play. Marcelo was too alone at the left wing and his cross was connect by Nacho with a low shot into the far post of Depor’s goalie.

Real Madrid continued pushing and Modrić had the next opportunity through a header that was an easy catch for Rubén (33’).  The trio at midfield wasn’t holding the ball, so the locals were feeling comfortable in attack and the second goal arrived before the pause.

Depor were trying to launch a counterattack, Mosquera had the ball at the edge of the area and tried to pass to Borges, instead he assisted a rival and the play ended with Marcelo releasing a high cross, Gareth Bale got it at the far post and ended scoring with a great volley into the far post of Rubén.

One of the worst halves in the history of Depor. The team gave up after the third goal and Real Madrid scored four more goals. The punishment could have been bigger, but Ruben and the lack of aim at the local side prevented a bigger humiliation.

The final part started with a modification at Depor as Mosquera had to be replaced by Edu Expósito. the Galician picked a muscle injury in his first play in the half. The script didn’t change and Real Madrid were still closer to score. At minute 57, Modrić had the first chance for the locals, but he missed the target.

Parralo made the second substitution and Çolak replaced Borges, but the situation didn’t change and the third goal arrived in a corner-kick. The perfect cross of Kroos was headed by Bale without any opposition.

The debacle started at that point. The Galicians gave up and ended paying a high price. The fourth goal could have arrived at minute 62, this after Borja Mayoral collected a cross from the left and, after been alone before Rubén, he ended heading the ball out. One minute later Ronaldo missed the target firing from the left corner of the area.

The fourth goal arrived anyway, it was a counterattack of Real Madrid with Bale leading the charge, the play ended with a short pass of Ronaldo that allowed Modrić to fire from the edge of the area, the curved shot was impossible for Rubén.

The party was unleashed, but Depor had two straight chances that didn’t end in goal by misfortune. In the first Lucas made a play on the left wing, his drilling shot was deflected and the loose ball was collected by Andone, somehow the attacker slipped and ended sending the ball over the crossbar (68’).

In the next play, the locals failed in the output of the ball and Çolak assisted Andone, this time the drilling attempt of the Romanian was saved by Nacho at the goal line. That was only a spark as Real Madrid continued alternating goals with missed chances. A fifth goal arrived after Cristiano collected cross from Casemiro to score at will. Again Luisinho was terrible in the mark and allowed the cross.

With Depor out of the game, Ronaldo scored again, this time heading a cross from the left before the mark of Schär. The Portuguese ended with a wound in the head and the locals ended with ten men as the changes were already made. It didn’t prevent to witness a seventh goal, it arrived in a corner-kick action. Nacho collected the ball at the far post and scored with crossed shot past Rubén.

Real Madrid had 16 scoring chances in this match and scored in 7 of them. Depor barely competed in the first half, it scored the first goal in the game, but later surrendered in the second half to live one of the worst games in recent times.  Juanfran and Luisinho constantly failed defending the flanks, while the midfielders never obstructed the rival’s game.

The only good news is that Levante UD lost and the Valencians remain two points away from Depor, precisely they are the next visitors to the Riazor (Saturday, 13h00 CET).
