Two teams in trouble try to react at Anoeta. Depor is forced to make changes due to the casualties, while Real Sociedad lived a heated closure of the winter window.

Referee: Alberto Undiano Mallenco
Kick-off: 21h00 CET (Anoeta)

Two of the current worst teams in la liga are colliding at Anoeta. Real Sociedad is the only team at Primera that haven’t added points in 2018.  The Basques have suffered four straight defeats and are about to enter into the race for the permanence if they continue dropping points, meanwhile Depor is the third worst team in the new year with only two points added in the period.

Depor is also the third worst visiting team in la liga after only adding six points in ten visits. Real Sociedad is the fifth worst local team with twelve points added in eleven home meetings. A fact to have in mind is that the Basques are the fourth worst defence in the competition with 40 goals allowed so far, UD Las Palmas (50) is the worst with Depor coming in second place (46).

The Galician outfit has only lost four of the last twelve visits to Anoeta, last season’s 1-0 loss was preceded by three straight draws. The last victory there for the Galicians took place during the campaign 2006/07: 0-1 with a goal scored by Arizmendi (February 23, 2007).

The last game against Levante UD was tragic for Deportivo, not only for dropping two points late in the meeting, but also for the casualties that are dragged to this game. And it’s that three men that were starters in the 2-2 draw at the Riazor are now out, Sidnei picked an injury early in the game and is out for two weeks, then Celso Borges was sent off and Florin Andone is suspended after picking the fifth yellow card on the season.

So, coach Cristóbal Parralo will make changes, something that he hasn’t done too often.  At least four modifications are expected. New arrival Michael Krohn-Dehli is ready to start, while Fede Cartabia is set to return after two months out. Lucas Pérez is moved into the centre of the attack and Raúl Albentosa returns in order to play at the centre of the defence.

Team news: New arrival Krohn-Dehli landed in A Coruña during the week and was included in the roster; actually he will be a starter. Albentosa is back after surpassing a back issue, but Sidnei joins Pedro Mosquera at the injury room. Emre Çolak is back after his punishment.  Borges and Andone are suspended. The players out for tactical reasons are Przemysław Tytoń and Gerard Valentín.

Man to watch: Playmaker Fede Cartabia. He was the best player of Depor at the start of the season, but his progression was cut due to a groin injury that needed surgery. His last game was against Sevilla CF (December 2), now he returns two months later in order to try to put Depor back into the right way. He already scored twice and provided one assist in fourteen league appearances.

Picked players: (18) Rubén Martínez, Kóval (goalkeepers); Juanfran, Bóveda, Albentosa, Schär, Luisinho, Navarro (defenders); Guilherme, Fede Valverde, Krohn-Dehli, Çolak, Bakkali, Carles Gil, Cartabia (midfielders); Adrián, Lucas Pérez & Borja Valle (attackers).

Predicted lineup: (4-3-3) Rubén Martínez – Juanfran, Albentosa, Schär, Luisinho – Guilherme, Valverde, Krohn-Dehli – Cartabia, Adrián, Lucas.

Deportivo will meet a team that’s distracted due to several external things, the bad results have left coach Eusebio Sacristán at the edge of destitution. Meanwhile, on Tuesday, nemesis Athletic Bilbao signed Iñigo Martínez for €32million, which converted the centre-back in the most expensive Spanish defender and one of the most hated men in San Sebastián. One day later Héctor Moreno was signed as his replacement.

Since the existence of the big rivalry with Athletic, the operation reopened the wounds among the fans and even president Jokin Aperribay had to come out in order to chill up the environment. So, Depor will found a team that’s not yet realizing that a defeat in this game will put them directly into the fight to avoid demotion and that could send Eusebio out by the back door.

Team news: New signing Héctor Moreno arrived late on Wednesday and wasn’t included in the roster for the game.  David Zurutuza skipped the last two games due to a muscle problem, he was expected to be available for the game, but was left out of the roster. Right-back Álvaro Odriozola is back after surpassing a back problem.

Man to watch: Striker William José. Despite the bad moment in liga, the Brazilian has been on fire and arrives to the meeting after scoring one goal in each one of the last three games. He is the top-scorer of Real Sociedad (10). He is also one of the few players that has scored four or more times in the same game of a European competition during this season (4 against FK Vardar Skopje for the Europa League).

Picked players: (18) Rulli, Toño Ramírez (goalkeepers); Odriozola, Aritz Elustondo, Raúl Navas, Diego Llorente., De la Bella (defenders); Rodrigues, Zubeldia, Illarramendi, Xabi Prieto, Canales, Jon Guridi (midfielders); Januzaj, Oyarzabal, Juanmi, Agirretxe & Willian José (attackers).

Predicted lineup: (4-3-3) Rulli – Odriozola, Llorente, Navas, Rodrigues – Januzaj, Illaramendi, Xabi Prieto – Canales, William José, Oyarzabal.
