PREVIEW: DEPORTIVO - BETIS (LIGA)

12 Feb 2018
Deportivo need the points in the debut of Seedorf. The coach is planning changes in what has been a different week at Abegondo. The rival arrives optimistic after their last positive results.

Referee: Carlos Del Cerro Grande
Kick-off: 21h00 CET (Riazor)

STATISTICS: THE WORST TEAM IN 2018
Deportivo is now the worst la liga team in 2018. The Galicians have only added 2 points in the five games disputed in the new year, just like Málaga CF and Levante UD, but they have a worst goal difference (-12) compared to the Andalusians (-3) and the Valencians (-5).

Meanwhile, Real Betis is fifth in this table with nine points added in 2018, but los Verdiblancos remain as a weak team in defence after allowing 45 goals in the whole season, that’s the third worst mark in la liga only below Deportivo (51) and UD Las Palmas (50).

Depor only won one of the last nine liga home games with Real Betis, though it’s also true that six of those nine meetings ended in draws. The last home win over the Andalusians playing in the league competition took place during the campaign 2007/08 (1-0). The goal in that game was scored by Andrés Guardado, who is returning to the Riazor, this time playing for the other side.

DEPORTIVO: NEW BEGINNING
Depor cannot drop more points in the quest for the permanence and the club’s officials decided that a change is needed, Clarence Seedorf is the third coach on the season and he decided to start from zero again. He made a mini-concentration during the week as he wants to clean the minds of the players.

On Tuesday he worked behind the covered pitch at Abegondo as he’s hiding the lineup for the game, so it’s hard to predict the starting eleven. On Wednesday he was testing a team with Eneko Bóveda as a centre-back and with Zakaria Bakkali performing on the left wing. Also, Krohn-Dehli and Fede Valverde were the centre midfielders.

Team news: Pedro Mosquera received the okay from doctors on Sunday and was picked for the game, so Sidnei Rechel is the only player at the injury room. Both Guilherme an Carles Gil are out for tactical reasons, same thing than Borja Valle, Tytoń and Gerard Valentin.

Man to watch: Midfielder Fede Valverde. The Uruguayan started been a starter with Parralo, but eventually lost his place and has only played 89 minutes in 2018. The arrival of Seedorf is giving him back the chance to be a starter, and he still has to demonstrate the same skills shown in the pre-season. Betis is a good opportunity as the Andalusians trend to leave plenty of room at midfield.

Picked players: (18) Rubén Martínez, Kóval (goalkeepers); Juanfran, Bóveda, Albentosa, Schär, Luisinho, Navarro (defenders); Mosquera, Fede Valverde, Borges, Krohn-Dehli, Çolak, Bakkali, Cartabia (midfielders); Adrián, Lucas Pérez & Andone (attackers).

Predicted lineup: (4-2-3-1) Rubén Martínez - Juanfran, Albentosa, Bóveda, Luisinho - Valverde, Krohn-Dehli - Lucas, Adrián, Bakkali - Andone.

REAL BETIS: OPTIMISM
There’s a feeling of euphoria for what has happened recently with the team in la liga, the results were mediocre until the Christmas break and coach Quique Setíén was under fire, some fans were even asking for his exit, but suddenly everything changed. More precisely since the first game in 2018 with the big win in the derby at Sevilla CF (3-5 win).

It was the morale boost that the team needed and later the team won two of the last four games, suddenly they are only three points below Europe and the optimism returned. This positive feeling has been reinforced with the arrival of the winter signings, Marc Bartra and Rubén Castro, plus the surprising appearance of Loren Morón.

Team news: Rubén Castro is a last-minute casualty due to back pain. Other four players are out of the game at the Riazor: Centre-back Zouhair Feddal (Achilles), strikers Joel Campbell and Toni Sanabria (both knee) plus left-back Antonio Barragán (suspended). Betis B players Junior Firpo and Francis Guerrero were picked for the match.

Man to watch: Striker Loren Morón. The injury of Sanabria was a strong hit for a team that was following an ascending lane, it was expected that new arrival Rubén Castro or Sergio León were going to fill the spot at the starting eleven, but suddenly this 24-year-old attacker came from Betis B in order to be the current sensation at the team. He had scored 17 goals in 23 matches at Segunda B, he signed a renewal recently and was allowed to debut at Primera against Villarreal CF, match in which he scored a brace to be now the focus of the attention.

Picked players: (18) Adán, Pedro López (goalkeepers); Rafa Navarro, Jordi Amat, Riza Durmisi, Marc Bartra, Aissa Mandi, Junior Firpo (defenders); Javi Garcia, Fabián Ruiz, Víctor Camarasa, Ryad Boudebouz, Joaquín, Andrés Guardado, Francis Guerrero (midfielders); Sergio León, Loren & Cristian Tello (attackers)

Predicted lineup: (4-3-3) Adán – Francis, Mandi, Bartra, Durmisi – Guardado, Javi García, Fabián Ruíz – Joaquín, Loren, Tello.
