Another defeat. After a decent first half, Depor showed its miseries once again and didn’t complete any shot on target, while Alavés only needed a distraction by Rubén to claim the three points.

Both coaches chose to play with the expected lineups. Clarence Seedorf was only presenting one change compared to last week’s defeat against Betis, it was the entry of Guilherme for injured Fede Valverde.

Rubén Martínez was the starting goalie, Juanfran Moreno covered the right side in defence, Luisinho covered the left sector, Eneko Bóveda and Raúl Albentosa were the centre-backs, Michael Krohn-Dehli joined Guilherme at midfield, Lucas Pérez attacked from the right wing, Zakaria Bakkali did it from the left, while Adrián López played behind Florin Andone in attack.

Abelardo was presenting a 4-4-2 draw with Munir El Haddadi and John Guidetti as the couple in attack. Ibai Gomez was the other offensive reference. Around 300 Depor’s fans made the trip to Vitoria for the game.

It was an entertaining half, though the curiosity is that there were no shots on target, though both sides met the woodwork once. Depor improved with the passage of the minutes and ended the half having the ball possession (51%). Bakkali and Adrián were the most active men for the visiting side.

The game started with an ambitious Alavés that had two consecutive chances, in the first a header wasn’t cleared properly by Depor’s defence and the play ended with Duarte hitting the crossbar after collecting the ball at the far post (4’), in the next play Guidetti was left alone before Rubén, but he missed the target.

But then the Galicians started to balance the meeting. Depor’s first approximation was a free-kick at the edge of the area, Guilherme put the ball inside the box and Albentosa found the rebound and released a shot on target, his shot was deflected to corner-kick by a rival (11’).

At minute 15, Andone was unable to connect a cross from Bakkali. Two minutes later the Belgian was hitting the post. It was a counterattack led by Adrián, he assisted Bakkali at the left side of the area, and his curved shot hit the crossbar.

The game was equal at the middle of the half, Alavés were having the ball possession, but later were suffering with the counterattacks by Depor, mainly commanded by Adrián and Bakkali. The locals were also having chances in the counterattack. At minute 35, Pedraza had a chance after a pass from Muni, but he missed the target.

Deportivo had a great chance to claim the lead at minute 40, it was a new counterattack with Andone running from midfield and into the left wing, but his final cross was blocked by a rival when Bakkali was waiting alone at the far post. Alavés also had a late chance, Bóveda didn’t clear properly a cross and the ball reached the path of Pedraza, who missed the target (44’).

All the good work done in the first half was gone for the second part, because Deportivo were a ghost at the mercy of Alavés, side that scored the winning goal and later spent the time administrating the advantage.

The second part started with the first shot on target in the game. After two corner-kicks in this half, Alavés had a chance with Ely heading the ball and Rubén made the catch (48’). The locals had a strong start and Depor weren’t feeling comfortable. At minute 55, Munir completed a counterattack with a new shot on target and Rubén made the save.

And then Alavés found the first goal. Munir got the ball at the edge of the area and released a volley that passed over Rubén. It gave the feeling that the keeper was misplaced in the play as he could have blocked the attempt if he would have been two steps back.

Depor were again in disadvantage and Seedorf made the first substitution, Mosquera claimed the spot of Krohn-Dehli, who again made a poor game. As it has been normal throughout the season, there was no reaction from Depor after suffering a blow.  Alavés were closer to score and Guidetti missed a good chance inside the area in an action blocked by Juanfran (70’).

With Depor dead, Cartabia replaced a Bakkali that once again was disappearing in the second half, but the side that was still having the chances was Alavés. At minute 76, a counterattack ended with Ibai Gómez firing from outside the area and the ball hit the crossbar.

The last substitution of Deportivo was the entry of Borges for Bóveda, with the move Mosquera was pushed into the centre of the defence. Alavés had the last chance with a cross from Pedraza that substitute Sobrino missed by inches (83’). Depor didn’t complete a shot on target in the entire match, though it hit the post once.

New defeat for a dead Deportivo. The Galicians had a decent first half, it hit the post once, but in the second everything fell apart. The Blanquiazul outfit never knew how to break Alavés defence and one more distraction of Rubén cost the game.

It’s the third straight game with Depor ending scoreless and the ninth straight match without wins, the Galicians remain penultimate and each day with a more complicate situation towards the permanence. The next game is the visit of RCD Espanyol to the Riazor (Friday, 21h00 CET). Bakkali will miss that game due to suspension.
