Seedorf plans a new revolution that seems more like a desperate solution. The rival is divided between aspiring to Europe or keeping a more humble approach.

Referee: Santiago Jaime Latre
Kick-off: 18h30 CET (Riazor)

The miseries of Deportivo continue and the club is now breaking its own negative records. The next one that will probably fall is the number of minutes without scoring a goal in liga. Currently the team has spent 495 minutes scoreless, it’s only 3minutes less than the historic record from the season 1996/97. So, unless Deportivo score an early goal in this game, the record will be broken.

The Galicians have only added three points in 2018, mark only above Málaga CF (2). It clearly reflects why they are penultimate at this moment. Los Blanquiazules are also the worst defence (22 goals allowed) and the second worst offense in the period (5 goals scored).

Meanwhile, SD Eibar represent the 8th best team in the new year, this after adding 14 points in 2018. They are coming after a 1-0 win over Villarreal CF, result that’s leaving them only three points away from Europe. But their weakness has been the away games, this after losing 6 of the 12 away meetings disputed so far.

Coach Clarence Seedorf was so unhappy with the defeat at Getafe CF that one day later he was testing a sort of 4-1-4-1 that can also be interpreted as a 4-1-3-2 figure. It means to make at least seven changes at the starting lineup, two of those modifications are forced ones due to the casualties of Pedro Mosquera and Guilherme.

Seedorf said after the game with Getafe that he was more worried about the lack of attentions than for the lack of goals, and he is ready to change the entire defensive line, while the main novelties up front are Emre Çolak and Florin Andone. At the back zone the main news are with Fernando Navarro and Sidnei Rechel.

The ex-Sevilla captain has only played once in 2018, it was in the 2-2 draw before Levante UD (14 minutes, January 27). That was also the last appearance of the Brazilian, who also played other two games in 2018: 1-1 at Villarreal CF and 1-2 Vs. Valencia CF.

Team news: Raúl Albentosa received the medical okay to play and goes directly into the starting eleven, but Fede Cartabia picked a hamstring injury on Friday and joins Fede Valverde and Guilherme at the injury room. Pedro Mosquera is suspended after picking the fifth yellow card of the season.  The players out for tactical reasons are Tytoń, Carles Gil and Gerard Valentín.

Man to watch: Playmaker Emre Çolak. Seedorf is looking for solutions in order to unclog the game upfront, in the past game he tested with Pedro Mosquera, now the opportunity is for Çolak. The Turkish has only been a starter in eight opportunities during this season, the last one was in the visit to FC Barcelona (December 17).

Picked players: (18) Rubén Martínez, Kóval (goalkeepers); Juanfran, Bóveda, Sidnei, Schär, Albentosa, Luisinho, Navarro (defenders); Borges, Muntari, Krohn-Dehli, Çolak, Bakkali (midfielders); Adrián, Lucas Pérez, Andone & Borja Valle (attackers).

Predicted lineup: (4-1-4-1) Rubén Martínez - Bóveda, Sidnei, Albentosa, Navarro - Muntari - Adrián, Borges, Çolak, Lucas - Andone.

SD Eibar represent the opposite case of Deportivo for this season, it’s a similar budget, but with a much better yield. A sporting direction that knows what they want, and that in the winter window just made the signings to reinforce punctual positions, so at this height in the competition the Basques enjoy the deserved reward only been three points below the sixth place.

Precisely, they defeated sixth place Villarreal CF on Tuesday, but sporting director Fran Garagarza wants to calm down the fans saying that Europe is not the goal, as he told to Marca, “No, that’ s not the goal. After yesterday’s points it seems the goal is achieved, but we must stay with the idea that the goal is the permanence and later, when we leave three teams behind, then anything else will be welcome.”

And it seems there are divided opinions inside the club, because for coach Jose Luis Mendilibar the permanence is secured, “The main goal has been achieved. I believe that the bottom clubs won’t reach the 38 points, and for now the only thing we can do is to think of the game against Deportivo, later Madrid.” He said in the press conference before the meeting.

No matter the case, the Basques have been a very complete team on this season, in past years SD Eibar was well-known for been a solid defence, but on this campaign the team coached by Mendilibar has also been a solid goal-scorer, just to remember they recent 5-1 win over Sevilla CF.

Team news: Two sensitive casualties as centre-back Iván Ramis (adductor muscle) and striker Sergi Enrich (knee ligaments) are out injured; then midfielder Fran Rico and goalkeeper Joel (both knee surgery) have been out since the pre-season.  Mendilibar is also resting people, so Vukanovic is out of the roster, while it’s expected that Dani García, Arbilla and Pedro León are going to start on the bench.

Man to watch: Striker Kike García. The Catalan veteran is finally yielding at the elite, the injury of Sergi Enrich opened a window to him, and he responded scoring 4 goals in his last 7 appearances in la liga, including the winning goal on Tuesday before Villarreal CF.

Picked players: (18) Dmitrovic, Riesgo (goalkeepers); Rubén Peña, Arbilla, Paulo Oliveira, Lombán, José Ángel “Cote”, David Juncà (defenders); Dani García, Escalante, Jordán, Pape Diop, Pedro León, Orellana, Alejo, Takashi Inui (midfielders); Kike García & Charles (attackers).

Predicted lineup: (4-2-3-1) Dimitrovic – Rubén Peña, Oliveira, Lombán, Cote – Escalante, Diop – Alejo, Orellana, Inui – Kike García.
