PREVIEW: DEPORTIVO – LAS PALMAS (LIGA)

17 Mar 2018
Big battle at the Riazor in the attempt to avoid demotion. Seedorf makes changes as he also changed the routine. The rival has followed the same downward spiral than Depor.

Referee: Juan Martínez Munuera
Kick-off: 13h00 CET (Riazor)

STATISTICS: TWO POOR TEAMS
Deportivo is the worst defence in la liga after allowing 59 goals in 28 matchdays, it’s also one of the two teams that haven’t won yet in 2018 (Málaga CF), and t’s the third worst home team in la liga with only 13 points added in 14 home meetings, only Levante UD (12) and Málaga CF (9) present a worse number.

Meanwhile, UD Las Palmas is the second worst offense in la liga with only 20 goals scored (the worst is Málaga CF with 16), and it’s also the second worst visiting team with only 6 points added in 14 visits (the worst is also Málaga with 4 points). The only victory on the road for the Canarian was a 1-3 win at Málaga CF for matchday 03.

UD Las Palmas have only won twice within their last nine liga visits to the Riazor, though those wins took place within their last three games at the Riazor. Also to remember the 1-4 win of the Canarians at the Riazor in Copa early on this campaign.

DEPORTIVO: THE LAST PUSH
Once again coach Clarence Seedorf is changing things as he still trying to break the spell around Deportivo. First, he tried to motivate the players with the visit of president Tino Fernándezplus major Xulio Ferreiro, this visit took place in midweek. Another measure was to have the players together in the breakfast before the last two training sessions.

On the training pitch there were also novelties, in the past two weeks the coach was testing the formation since the first sessions, now he preferred to focus in the set-pieces and specialized tasks as the team was divided in groups (defenders and attackers), it was until Friday that he tested something specific, a 4-4-2 formation with Juanfran, Çolak and Guilherme as the main novelties.

Team news: Krohn-Dehli and Guilherme are back from their injuries, but only the latter was included in the roster for the game. The players at the injury room are Luisinho, Fede Cartabia, Fede Valverde and Eneko Bóveda. Krohn-Dehli, Tytońand Borja Valle are out for tactical reasons.

Man to watch: Playmaker Emre Çolak. The Turkish will have his ninth appearance as a starter. Depor need volume in attack and he seems to be the best choice in the playmaking function. Çolak was a starter only once in 2018, it was in the 1-1 draw against SD Eibar (March 03). He was sacrificed at the end of the first half after Kóval was sent off.

Picked players: (18) Rubén Martínez, Kóval (goalkeepers); Juanfran, Gerard Valentín, Sidnei, Schär, Albentosa, Navarro (defenders); Borges, Muntari, Mosquera, Guilherme, Çolak, Carles Gil, Bakkali (midfielders); Adrián, Lucas Pérez & Andone (attackers).

Predicted lineup: (4-4-2) Rubén Martínez - Juanfran, Sidnei, Albentosa, Navarro – Adrián, Muntari, Çolak, Guilherme – Lucas, Andone.

LAS PALMAS: MIRROW IMAGE
This UD Las Palmas is having the same critical errors that have pulled Depor into the bottom of the standings: a bad planning of the squad, four coaches in a frame of twelve months, a poor defence and the anger of a group of fans that were expecting to see their team upper at the standings.

And the Canarians also dropped players in the winter window while their reinforcements aren’t making the difference. If Depor lost Alejandro Arribas, the yellow team transferred Jonathan Viera and Loďc Rémy.

Perhaps the only difference right now between Depor and UD Las Palmas is the style of their current coach, because while Seedorf tries to show an optimistic view in front of the cameras, Paco Jémez continues to be a passionate manager that often speaks too much at the press room, just in his last appearance with reporters, after the defeat with Villarreal CF, he complained that everyone should be fired –including him- after the most recent setback.

Team news: Las Palmas trained at Abegondo on Friday, but coach Paco Jémez didn’t give further clues about the lineup. He said that Jairo Samperio should be fit for tomorrow, but Oghenekaro Etebo didn’t train with the team and should be out. Centre-back Alejandro Gálvez is suspended and Matias Aguirregaray should be a starter at the centre of the defence.

Man to watch: Striker Jonathan Calleri. The Argentine is now the main reference in attack after the exits of Loďc Rémy and Jonathan Viera. He has scored twice within his last four presentations, including the equalizer against FC Barcelona. In the Copa game played at the Riazor early on the season he scored a brace coming out from the bench.

Picked players: (24) Raúl Lizoain, Chichizola, Josep Martínez (goalkeepers); David Simón, Matias Aguirregaray, David García, Michel Macedo, Javi Castellano, Dani Castellano, Ximo Navarro (defenders); Vicente Gómez, Alen Halilović, Gabriel Peńalba, Momo, Nacho Gil, Jairo Samperio, Hernán Toledo, Tana, Aquilani, Benito Ramirez (midfielders); Oghenekaro Etebo, Jonathan Calleri, Imoh Ezekiel & Erik Expósito (attackers)

Predicted lineup: (4-2-3-1) Chichizola – Aguirregaray, David García, Ximo Navarro, Michel – Jairo, Vicente Gómez – Halilović, Momo, Tana – Calleri.
