Disappointing draw for a Deportivo that start to say good-bye to Primera. The Galicians had a strong start, but later faded away. The rival didn’t complete a shot on target.

Coach Clarence Seedorf presented the expected lineup for the game. Emre Çolak was the only change compared to the past game in a 4-3-1-2 formation. Rubén Martínez was the starting goalie, Juanfran Moreno covered the right side in defence, Luisinho played on the left, then Raúl Albentosa and Fabian Schär were the centre-backs.

The trivote at midfield was composed by Guilherme Dos Santos, Pedro Mosquera and Celso Borges. Then Çolak was played behind the attacking duo, Adrián López and Lucas Pérez.

At CD Leganés, coach Asier Garitano left Omar Ramos out of the game; instead Nordin Amrabat was a starter. Miguel Ángel Guerrero and Nabil El Zhar were the other references in attack.

Deportivo had better opportunities despite not having the ball. The rival committed some mistakes in defence, but Lucas couldn’t seize his three chances. Çolak was the best player in this half thanks to his passes.

The game started with Deportivo controlling the actions and having two clear chances to score. Both were for Lucas. In the first he stole the ball at the edge of the area after a long throw coming from the visiting defence, Çolak assisted him and later the Galician striker couldn’t resolve before two defenders (5’). One minute later he was assisted by a drilling pass of Çolak , and the striker failed in the one-on-one before local goalie ’Pichu’ Cuéllar.

After these two opportunities, the game became more equal. CD Leganés started to push and had a couple of approximations, though without creating any harm. But Depor had already step back, the Galicians were now waiting at their side of the field.

The first opportunity for the locals came at minute 23, it was a corner-kick action in which El Zhar found the ball inside the area and, when he was between six defenders, his shot was deflected by Albentosa to corner-kick.

Depor, despite been under pressure in defence, were still having opportunities in the counterattack. At minute 26, Çolak assisted Lucas and the shot of the striker was once again deflected by Cuéllar. This action was replied with a cross from Diego Rico that Eraso headed out.

The game was entertaining; both sides were missing opportunities as the defenses were failing to contain the danger. Still, CD Leganés were looking more dangerous as they were having the ball. At minute 34, Guerrero assisted Zaldua inside the area and the defender sent the ball wide.

Depor had a new chance at minute 37, Çolak assisted Lucas on the left wing and his cross was connected by Adrián, and Siovas deflected the ball to corner-kick. The Turkish was involved in the four clear opportunities in the half.

The good impression left in the first part faded away in the second, there were no shots on target as both sides never knew how to damage the opponent. Seedorf ended with four strikers on the field, but his team never created a sense of danger.

The final part started with a feeling of vertigo, similar to the one saw in the first half, because Deportivo and Leganés were exchanging the approximations. The locals were having the ball, while the visiting outfit was relying in the counterattack.

Fede Valverde was the first substitution as he replaced Mosquera. Depor were not controlling the ball at midfield, so Seedorf tried to refresh the sector. The change didn’t have any effect though.

The first chance in the half was for El Zhar; he made a solo-play on the left wing and his shot from inside the area went wide (57’). At minute 63, both sides had a chance. First, a corner-kick on the left was blocked by Cuéllar before the arrival of two attackers, in the counterattack the long throw of the keeper was cleared by Rubén.

At minute 67, a lateral free-kick of Guilherme ended in a rebound that Juanfran found at the edge of the area, but his low shot went wide. Borja Valle was the second substitution at Depor as replaced Çolak.

The final change at Depor was the entry of Florin Andone for Borges. Seedorf was ending the game with four strikers on the pitch, but Depor never created any harm. The game had a tasteless end as there were only two chances within the last twenty minutes, one for each side. Substitute Claudio Beauvue headed the ball wide in a cross coming from the left (81’), then Andone missed the target with a crossed shot (86’).

Another nail in the coffin. Depor had a solid start with Lucas having four chances to score, but the visiting side was later surpassed by a rival that didn’t even complete a shot on target. There wasn’t a final push in the second half and the permanence seems now like an impossible dream.

Because Deportivo are now six points behind Levante UD, side that still have to play in this matchday. And the next game is a tough one as FC Barcelona visit the Riazor on next Saturday (20h45 CET).
