NOTES FROM THE GAME VS CELTA

07 May 2018
Seedorf guessed right with the modifications as Rubén re-confirmed the poor season of the goalkeepers. The entry of Valverde reorganized a team that looked better in the second half.

The five notes from the game Vs. RC Celta:

1- Fair result, boring derby: The Galician derby lacked motivation and therefore it turned to be a boring match with only seven attempts to score. RC Celta were better in the first half, mainly in the first minutes as they found plenty of space for the counterattack, but without seizing the opportunities. Deportivo closed the lies in the second half, but without creating too much. The final tie is the deserved reward for two teams that want to end the league as soon as possible.

2- Çolak and Fede Valverde: Bad game for Emre Çolak, the Turkish never felt comfortable on the pitch, he was constantly marked by two men and without his guidance Depor were lost in the first half and even suffered in defence. The best example is Celta’s chance at minute 28, Çolak got the ball at midfield when he was backwards the opposite goal and marked by two men, he moved back and tried to make a pass, but instead assisted Maxi Gómez, who was close to score.

Valverde entered at half-time and Depor improved, not necessarily by his presence (only 65 touches against 85 by Çolak), but for the disposition of the team. The Uruguayan was playing towards the left wing, Borges was moved into the centre and Celta were not longer finding room for the counterattack. It helped Depor to have more stability and control the actions.

3- Good changes by Seedorf: Clarence Seedorf is a coach used to make changes that don’t have an impact in the games, it’s one of his main weaknesses. But in this game it was perfect. The entry of Valverde helped to have a more stable team, while Andone entered and brought the assist for the equalizer. In the case of Borja Valle, he didn’t have an impact in the game, but it a a necessary modification as Adrian wasn’t totally fit after his physical problems of the past weeks.

4- New error by Rubén Martínez: Fourth error of Rubén on the season that cost a goal, this time it didn’t cost the game as Depor rescued a point. It’s true that the Galician keeper made two important saves later, but his mistake is just a new confirmation of the disastrous season of Depor’s goalkeepers.

5- Cutting Celta’s streak: The late equalizer by Lucas Pérez meant to cut the streak of three straight victories of RC Celta in the derbies. No one has been able to chain four straight victories in the Galician derbies playing at the elite.
