Carmelo Del Pozo will be the new Sporting director of Deportivo. The official announcement was made on Monday and he will be presented on Tuesday.

Deportivo already chose a sporting director: Carmelo del Pozo. The 49-year-old man is coming from Levante UD, last week he agreed to leave the club paying a release clause as his current contract was ending in 2019. The comment is that he is paying between €150,000 and €100,000 in order to be released.

The announcement was made on Monday, and he will be presented on Tuesday in a press conference in which president Tino Fernández will analyze the development of the current season. He is signing a three-year deal with the Galician club.

Del Pozo was a physical trainer that in 2013, after some internal problems at Real Oviedo, ended working at the sporting secretariat of the Asturian club. He was responsible of composing a squad that, two years later, was going to conquer the promotion to Segunda.

In 2016, he was signed by Levante UD and once again he succeeded, because the team that he built conquered a promotion, this time to Primera División. That’s the reason why Deportivo is signing him as he has a solid knowledge of Segunda B and Segunda.

Del Pozo is accepting the job not only for been an evolution from the sporting secretariat to a sporting director role, but also because Deportivo offer him freedom at the moment of making decisions, something he no longer had at Levante UD.

Deportivo suffered the relegation to Segunda and was currently without a sporting advisor and sporting director after the exits of Fernando Vidal and Richard Barral. The club wants to reorganize its sporting structure after the disastrous campaign in la liga and this is the first step.
