Dramatic game that left both teams feeling disappointed, CD Toledo for suffering the demotion, and Fabril for not conquering the first place due to a legal goal that didn’t count.

Last game on the regular season. Fabril needed to not see Rayo Majadahonda winning and later pick a win or a draw in order to earn the first place. Coach Gustavo Munúa was recovering Álex Cobo and Blas Alonso, so the only players out injured were Lucas Viña, Carlos López and Óscar García.

The lineup was a 4-4-2 figure with Francis Uzoho covering the goal, Blas Alonso performed at the right-back position, Raúl González and Steve One were the centre-backs, Diego Caballo performed at the left side. Edu Expósito and Gaizka Martínez were the centre midfielders, Jorge Romay attacked from the right wing. Borja Galán did it from the left, then Luis Fernández and Uxio Dapena were the centre forwards.

The rival was CD Toledo, side that needed the victory in order to avoid the demotion. This is the club of Lassad Nouioui, who had to retire after suffering heart attack some weeks ago.  Coach Miguel Falcón was missing top-scorer Héctor Figueroa (9 goals on the season), so the reference in attack was Sergio García (6 goals in the campaign).

High drama at Salto Del Caballo, both teams weren’t fine, mainly the locals as they were pressed by the circumstances. Salto Del Caballo. The game was equal at the start, CD Toledo had the first opportunities. First Sergio García entered the area by the centre and his shot was blocked by Steve One (6’), two minutes later Juan Romagnoli attempted a shot that was saved by Francis.

With the passage of the minutes, the locals started to dominate and were pushing in attack. At minute 14, a new attempt of Sergio García missed the target, and in the next play the same player had a new opportunity, this time it was deflected to corner-kick by Francis.

The first big chance for Fabril came at minute 18, Luis Fernández got the ball inside the area, but his crossed and drilling shot missed the target. Three minutes later Toledo’s Charly Rodriguez could have scored with a strong shot that missed the goal.

At the middle of the half, CD Toledo were dominating and Fabril were suffering with the quick attacks by the locals. Sergio García had a new opportunity in a counterattack in which his shot as barely deflected by Steve One (25’).

Luis Fernández had a great opportunity at minute 38, it was a direct free-kick in which his shot was saved by local goalie Pablo Alcolea (38’). CD Toledo replied with Jon Montiel completing a low and strong shot that Francis deflected (40’). Fabril improved a lot within the last fifteen minutes, it had the ball and was no longer suffering with the local attacks.

The second half started with a new save by Francis, Charly Rodriguez collected a cross from the right and his header was blocked by Fabril’s goalie (46’). Four minutes later Steve One had a good opportunity as he was heading a free-kick, but he was offside though Alcolea also made the save.

The game was tense, though not attractive. The locals were suffering the relegation due to the results in other games, so they were pushing hard, while Fabril had big problems passing the ball and were also aware that they could win the group as Rayo Majadahonda had wasted a two-goal lead. Joni Montiel had a great opportunity at minute 54, it was a throw-in that surprised the visiting side and the curved shot by Montiel was brilliantly cleared by Francis, who was the best player at the visiting side.

Toledo’s pressure continued, at minute 62, a log ball couldn’t be cleared by Steve One, it reached the path of Sergio García, who was denied twice by Francis. The first substitution at Fabril was the entry of Bicho for Uxio.

At minute 68, Luis couldn’t head properly a cross from the left. Depor’s lads were finding enough room to control the ball and launch quick attacks, but later they didn’t find the depth to finalize the plays with shots on target.

So, CD Toledo continued to be the most dangerous team on the pitch. At minute 72, a lateral free-kick ended with a low sot that was deflected inside the area and somehow Francis deflected the ball and later a defender cleared the danger.

Munúa made the second substitution and Gaizka Martínez replaced Romay. The last change was the entry of Luismi for Borja Galán. CD Toledo were already desperate and had two new chances, the first a shot by Joni Montiel that went out (79’) and then a corner-kick in which Francis missed the ball, though the cross went out.

Then it came the polemic play in the game, Bicho fought until the end for a ball at midfield, he combined with Luis and ended releasing a high volley that Luismi met at the right corner of the box, his high header went over Alcolea, hit the crossbar and rebounded on the ground pass the goal line, but the goal wasn’t given. The game ended with the desperation of the local team as the point wasn’t enough to stay at Segunda B.

Difficult game for Fabril due to the circumstances lived by the rival, truly the locals deserved more as they have more opportunities, but it’s also true that Depor’s lads could have won the game in that last chance that should have counted as a goal.

Despite the protest from other clubs, Fabril will play the playoff round. It cannot earn the promotion due the relegation of the first team, but the lads want to compete. The rival in the first round is Extremadura UD. The first round is played this weekend on the road, and the retuning leg one week later at home.
