REVIEW: DEPOR 1 – VALLADOLID 1 (FRIENDLY)

02 Aug 2018
A rival from the elite and Depor presented some defensive mismatches, but the team reacted in the second half and rescued the draw.

Natxo González decided to play with a 4-3-1-2 formation, the one that he is planning for the regular season. The rival was Real Valladolid, a recently promoted club to Primera that represents the biggest challenge in the pre-season calendar.

It was a poor first half for Deportivo as the Galicians never represented a danger for a rival that often felt comfortable on the pitch. Both teams weren’t making too much at the start of the game, but Valladolid found a goal in a defensive distraction. Dani Giménez made a compromised pass to Álex Bergantiños and Chris Ramos seized the opportunity to score from close range through  a volley.

Depor never reacted to this goal, the trivote at midfield was busy trying to steal the ball from the rival, so Pedro Sánchez was passing unnoticed.  Neither the rival did too much; they were spending the time passing the ball and only created some danger in a couple of set-pieces without consequences.

Antonio Domínguez had the second opportunity in the game for Valladolid, it was a counterattack in which he ended releasing a low shot from the edge of the area, but it was too soft and Dani Giménez managed to deflect it to corner-kick (37’).

The second part started with both teams presenting the same men. Depor improved a bit in this half, the Galicians had longer ball possessions and started to surround the rival’s area, but the plays weren’t ending in scoring opportunities.

Depor’s first chance was a cross from Saúl that Quique González couldn’t connect with his acrobatic attempt (51’), later Valladolid changed the entire team and the Deportivo had a new chance to score in a lateral free-kick of Quique González that didn’t find a receiver (62’).

The first big chance for Depor in the game came at minute 66, Albentosa attempted a curved shot in a direct free-kick shot and substitute keeper Samu Pérez made the save. Two minutes later Pedro could have scored the equalizer after connecting a corner-kick, but Samu Pérez made a brilliant save.

Then Natxo made his modifications and changed ten players, only Eneko Bóveda stayed on the pitch. Celso Borges was debuting in the pre-season, while five Fabril’s players entered the field (Blas Alonso, Mujaid, Steve One, Diego Caballo and Uxío Dapena).

Borges gave more guidance to midfield, while the presence of Cartabia and Carles Gil added depth in attack, so Depor caressed the goal through a shot of Caballo (81’), later the equalizer arrived through a long pass of Borges that allowed Cartabia to score chipping the ball over Samu Pérez.
