Centre-back Michele Somma signs a two-year deal with Depor after ending his previous contract with Brescia Calcio. He has been in all the youth national teams of Italy and is the replacement for Albentosa.

On Wednesday, Carmelo Del Pozo was confirming that Raúl Albentosa is set to leave the club and that the arrival of a new centre-back was imminent and that he could come before the exit of the Valencian, what no one imagined was that this replacement was going to be announced only hours later, and the name is Michele Somma.

The 23-year-old Italian defender has just terminated his contract with Brescia Calcio and was going to sign for FC Bari at Serie B, but that club was demoted to the fourth tier and renamed as SSC Bari due to financial issues, so the player was free and Depor decided to bet on him. The centre-back is signing a two-year deal and will join the group on Thursday (he completed the medicals on Tuesday and had a training session working alone during Wednesday’s afternoon).

Somma is a promising centre-back that has been part of all the youth teams in Italy (from U-16 to U-20). He was part of AS Roma during the season 2014/15, but only played once there and was later transferred to Brescia Calcio in a deal worth €1.8 million. At Brescia, Somma completed 60 appearances at Serie B (missed several games due to a knee ligaments injury), including 38 on last campaign (he only missed 6 games).

The Italian defender is the thirteenth reinforcement for Deportivo ahead of the season 2018/19 after the signings of goalkeepers Dani Giménez and David Ortolá, right-back David Simón, left-back Sebastián Dubarbier, centre-backs Pablo Mari and Domingos Duarte, winger Pedro Sánchez, midfielders Didier Moreno, Álex Bergantiños and Vicente Gómez plus strikers Christian Santos and Quique González
