PREVIEW: EXTREMADURA – DEPORTIVO (LIGA)

24 Aug 2018
Depor search for the first victory in liga, new signings Vicente Gómez and Didier Moreno could debut. The rival has had problems inscribing players.

Referee: Oliver De La Fuente Ramos
Kick-off: 22h00 CET (Francisco De La Hera)

STATISTICS: FIFTH MEETING WITH EXTREMADURA
Extremadura UD is a recently founded club, it was born in 2007 after the disappearance of Extremadura CF.  The latest version is debuting at Segunda while the previous existence of the club was the one that competed at Primera during the seasons 1996/97 and 1998/99, campaigns in which they faced Deportivo at the elite.

Deportivo won two of those only four meetings in liga, one game ended in a draw and the only victory for Los Azulgranas was a 1-0 win at the Francisco De La Hera stadium (January 25, 1997).  Both teams arrive to the meeting after a 1-1 draw in the opening matchday.

DEPORTIVO: FIRST CHANGES
Coach Natxo González is forced to make the first changes of the season after losing two players in the debuting game in liga. Fede Cartabia is injured and Michael Krohn-Dehli is suspended. During the week the coach tested with several alternatives, but it’s expected that Borja Valle is going to replace Cartabia, while the other casualty will be covered with a new signing

Both Vicente Gómez and Didier Moreno were picked for the game despite joining the team until this week, both were even tested as possible starters, but it’s expected that only one of them will play. The rest should be the same team that drew 1-1 in t Albacete.

Team news: Playmaker Fede Cartabia suffered an ankle sprain in the game against Albacete and is out for a month. He is the only player at the injury room as Christian Santos is recovered from a muscle problem and the Venezuelan was picked for the match. Meanwhile, midfielder Michael Krohn-Dehli was sent off and is suspended for two games. The players out for tactical reasons are Tytoń, Saúl García and Gerard Valentín. New signing Michele Somma joined the team until Thursday.

Man to watch: Striker Borja Valle. After two years on the sidelines, the Ponferrada-born player seems to have doubts about staying or not at Deportivo; this is his chance to demonstrate that he wants to earn a spot at a team that aspires to the promotion.

Picked players (18): Dani Giménez, Ortolá (goalkeepers); David Simón, Bóveda, Pablo Mari, Domingos Duarte, Dubarbier, Diego Caballo (defenders); Álex Bergantiños, Edu Expósito, Mosquera, Vicente Gómez, Didier Moreno, Pedro Sánchez, Carles Gil (midfielders); Christian Santos, Borja Valle & Quique González (attackers)

Predicted lineup: (4-3-1-2) Dani Giménez – David Simón, Bóveda, Domingos Duarte, Caballo – Vicente Gómez, Edu Expósito, Álex Bergantiños – Pedro Sánchez – Borja Valle, Quique González.

EXTREMADURA: PROBLEMS WITH THE SALARY CAP RULE
It’s a dream for the autonomous community of Extremadura to finally have back a football club at professional football (the last club from the region at Segunda was CD Badajoz on the season 2002/2003), but it has been a hard summer for president Manuel Franganillo. Their plan is to keep the base that competed at Segunda B and reinforce it with players with experience in the league, but the expected income of €4 million for the campaign hasn’t been enough to satisfy la liga and its strict salary cap rule.

On Matchday 01, they weren’t allow to inscribe four players and, with the two injury cases and a suspension case, coach Juan Sabas was only able to present 16 players for the meeting, they were able to pick up a point visiting Real Oviedo (1-1), but now they only have eight days to convince la liga and inscribe the pending reinforcements.

Team news: The club didn’t release a roster after the last training session (Thursday), because they are expecting to fix the issue of the salary cap. Still, it’s not probable that goalkeeper Casto Espinoza, defender Nico Del Monte , winger Diego Capel and striker Chuli could be inscribed before the match. At least the coach will have eighteen men available as midfielder Fausto Tienza and defender Luciano Balbi are recovered from their muscle problems, while striker Enric Gallego returns from a suspension.

Man to watch: Right winger Carlos Valverde. Considered the brain of the team and the main reference in attack, this Andalusian player was the soul of last year’s promotion. He scored in the playoff against Fabril.

Picked players: Roster not released.

Predicted lineup: (4-2-3-1) Manu Garcia - Alex Diez, Djalo, Pardo, Pomares - Álex Barrera, Borja Granero - Valverde, Manchón, Kike Márquez – Renella.
