PREVIEW: TENERIFE - DEPORTIVO (LIGA)

01 Sep 2018
Depor’s search for a new positive result on the road as it visits CD Tenerife, a team that wants to improve after failing to reach the promotion spots on last season.

Referee: Jorge Figueroa Vázquez
Kick-off: 20h30 CET (Heliodoro Rodríguez López)

STATISTICS: NOT TOO GOOD PRECEDENTS
Deportivo and CD Tenerife arrive to the meeting as the only clubs at Segunda that haven’t played yet at home, at the same time they are among the thirteen teams that haven’t lost yet in the competition. In the case of the Galicians they will have to wait one more week in order to return to the Riazor as the stadium will be ready until next weekend.

The Galician outfit has visited CD Tenerife in eleven opportunities playing for a league competition, and it only won twice at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López stadium, both were 0-1 scores, first playing at Primera (1993/94) and later at Segunda (2009/10).

DEPORTIVO: WITHOUT SURPRISES
Many fans were worried that the last days of the summer market were going to affect Deportivo, because any Primera club in problems at the start of the league could come for any player at the Galician squad. In the end the team was practically closed in the last week, with the only pending subjects of a couple of reinforcements and the players without room at the team that were leaving.

Things were so calm that coach Natxo González can even repeat the lineup that achieved the first win of the season. Still, it’s expected that he will make a change allowing the introduction of Colombian Didier Moreno, who impressed in his debut and during the friendly game at Racing ferrol.

Team news: Domingos Duarte passed a late test and is expected to start, but Sebastián Dubarbier is a last-minute casualty due to a hamstring injury. He joins Fede Cartabia at the injury room. Centre-back Michele Somma was picked for the first time. Gerard Valentín is also in for the first time on the season, while Krohn-Dehli serves his last match of suspension. The players out for tactical reasons are Albentosa and Saúl.

Man to watch: Striker Quique González. The Valladolid-born attacker scored his first goal at Depor on the previous weekend, it gives him the opportunity to continue leading the attack in a position that will be highly competed after the arrival of Carlos Fernández and the renewal of Borja Valle.

Picked players: (19) Dani Giménez, Ortolá (goalkeepers); David Simón, Bóveda, Gerard Valentín, Pablo Mari, Domingos Duarte, Michele Somma, Diego Caballo (defenders); Álex Bergantiños, Edu Expósito, Mosquera, Vicente Gómez, Didier Moreno, Pedro Sánchez, Carles Gil (midfielders); Christian Santos, Borja Valle & Quique González (attackers)

Predicted lineup: (4-3-1-2) Dani Giménez – David Simón, Bóveda, Domingos Duarte, Caballo – Vicente Gómez, Álex Bergantiños, Didier Moreno – Carles Gil – Borja Valle, Quique González.

TENERIFE: PUSHING FOR MORE
CD Tenerife had a good start on last season winning 3 of the first 4 games, but later the team faded away and Josep Lluís Martí was fired after only 25 games. Joseba Etxeberria took charge of the team and chaining an impressive rally of 7victories in his first 9 games. The team caressed the promotion spots, but once again the Canarian outfit fell down and only won once within the last 8 presentations.

Now, with Etxeberria still on the bench, the goal is to be more consistent and enter into the promotion seats. And in order to earn this consistency the club has barely touched the team; surely they lost power in attack with the exits of Samuele Longo and Víctor Casadesús (the top-scorers last season) plus ex-Depor Juan Carlos Real.

But the rest of the team is intact and also kept Filip Malbašić, who last year scored 9 goals. In order to fill the spot in attack they signed ex-Celta José Naranjo and also Nano Mesa from Sporting Gijón, they even reinforced the defence with the loan of Chelsea’s right-back Joao Rodríguez

Team news: Midfielder Aitor Sanz (muscle) and left winger Filip Malbašić (knee) are recovered from their problems. Midfielder Tyronne Del Pino (knee) and right-back Joao Rodriguez (muscle) are evolving, but won’t start. Winger Francisco Montañés is evolving from a muscle issue, but won’t be picked for the match.

Man to watch: Winger Filip Malbašić. The exits of Longo and Casadesús left the Serbian as the main reference in attack, and he already responded scoring a wonderful goal in the last 1-1 draw visiting UD Almeria.

Picked players: The roster will be released until Saturday

Predicted lineup: (4-2-3-1) Dani Hernández – Luis Pérez, Carlos Ruiz, Aveldaño, Camille - Alberto, Luis Milla - José Naranjo, Raúl Cámara, Malbašić – Nano.
