REVIEW: ALCORCÓN 1 – DEPORTIVO 0 (LIGA)

16 Sep 2018
First defeat in liga for a Depor that made a terrible game, nothing worked and AD Alcorcón deserved the result despite not doing too much.

BEFORE THE GAME
Coach Natxo González chose to play with Carlos Sánchez as the playmaker in the formation. The rest was the expected 4-3-1-2 lineup with Dani Giménez at the goal, David Simón covered the right side in defence, Diego Caballo played on the left, with Pablo Mari and Domingos Duarte covering the central positions.

Didier Moreno, Álex Bergantiños and Vicente Gómez were the trident at midfield, then Pedro Sánchez was playing behind Fede Cartabia and Carlos Fernández in attack.

At AD Alcorcón, Cristobal Parralo was playing with a 4-4-2 system with Juan Muñoz and Jonathan Pereira as the references in attack. Ex-Depor Laure was a starter at the right side of the defence.

FIRST HALF
Poor first half for a Deportivo that lacked ambition and accuracy, even the corner-kicks were ending in counterattacks for the local team. David Simón suffered a lot on the irht but the goal came from the left.

The game started with Depor trying to have control of the actions; as Natxo González announced the day before, the Galician side was trying to put pause in the game, it had the ball and was dictating the pace. But the first chance to score was for the locals, Juan Muñoz got a loose ball at the edge of the area and his strong shot was deflected by Dani Giménez (8’).

At minute 13, Muñoz had a new chance to score, he was left a lone against Dani Gimenez, but his low and crossed shot went out. Five minutes later the same attacker had a new attempt, but his shot was blocked.

At the middle of the first half, Depor had already lost the pause. The midfielders weren’t holding the ball, David Simón was having big problems to defend his side and AD Alcorcón started to surround the visiting area. At minute 24, Jonathan Pereira won the jump against Domingos Duarte, but his header went out.

The disconnection was so big that Depor were even failing in the corner-kicks, the centre-backs were arriving in order to head a cross, but in the end the set-pieces takers were trying to release short passes that ended in lost ball that were transformed into counterattacks.

In the last stages of the half, Depor improved and tried to attack, but it only completed a couple of blocked shots. And Alcorcón had a deserved reward for been the best team in the first part. The locals were attacking by the left and Jonathan Pereira released a cross shot that Nono converted into a goal.

SECOND HALF
No reaction from a Deportivo that never competed, the visiting team never knew what to do before a rival that spent the time administrating the advantage and wasting time. AD Alcorcón even deserved a bigger score with the chances had in the game.

For the first time on the season, Depor were trailing in a liga game and the Galicians continued without appearing in the second part. The half started with a deflected shot of Sangalli (47’). At least Depor had its first chance in the game at minute 61.

Didier Moreno made the play on the right, he released a low cross that Carlos Fernández met at the edge of the area, then the striker assisted Cartabia and the drilling shot from the Argentine playmaker was saved by local goalie Dani Jiménez.

Depor started to grow in the game and Natxo ordered the first substitution with Krohn-Dehli replacing Pedro Sánchez. Then Carles Gil replaced Álex Bergantiños. But the changes didn’t’ work and Alcorcón regained control of the actions and started to create chances. At minute 68, Sangalli fired from the edge of the area and Dani Gimenez made the save. In the resulting corner-kick Muñoz missed the target from close range.

The last substitution at Depor was the entry of Christian Santos for Cartabia, then Carles Gil was close to score collecting the ball inside the area and his strong and low shot was saved by Dani Jiménez (74’)

Impotence was witnessed within the last fifteen minutes as Depor were unable to create any chance. AD Alcorcón weren’t suffering and a new error in a free-kick cost the expulsion of Krohn-Dehli. Instead of releasing a cross from the left searching for the five Depor’s players inside the area, Carles Gil tried a short pass that ended in a counterattack and Krohn-Dehli had to cut the action handling the ball. He had already seen a first yellow card and ended expelled for the second time in the season.

AFTER THE GAME
Terrible game for a Depor that never competed, the Galicians didn’t even know how to throw the set-pieces and suffered the first defeat of the league season against a rival that didn’t do too much, but that deserved the victory.

The defeat leaves Depor at midtable. The Blanquiazul outfit returns to the Riazor on next Monday as it hosts Granada CF (21h00 CET).
