Important game at the Riazor; Depor host the best defence in the league having the casualties of Cartabia and Vicente Gómez. Precisely the injuries are the main concern in A Coruña.

Referee: Isidro Díaz de Mera Escuderos
Kick-off: 18h00 CET (Riazor)

Málaga CF arrive to the Riazor as the current leader in Segunda adding 18 points in 7 matchdays (6 wins and 1 defeat). It’s the best mar in Spain’s second tier since the 19 points added by Elche CF in the campaign 2012/13. The Andalusians have only allowed two goals, which is the best mark in this century tied with Levante UD (2003/04).

This version of Málaga has always faced problems visiting the Riazor, because they have lost in 11 of their 14 liga meetings played in A Coruña. They were only able to win once there, it was a 0-1 win for the season 2014/15, match in which Iván Cavaleiro missed a penalty and had another chance to score that hit the post.

There’s concern in A Coruña as, in only seven matchdays, several key men at the squad already missed some games due to injury cases. For this game coach Natxo González is losing Vicente Gómez and Fede Cartabia after they picked knocks in the previous game at Nástic. In the case of the Argentine playmaker it’s the second time he will miss a game.

More precisely, there have been seven cases of players that have missed a least a game after picking an injury, it’s a high number taking in mind that only seven weeks have passed in the campaign. The worst part is that four of those seven cases have meant to miss a man for at least a month, which is now the case of Cartabia.  For now, the coaching staff hasn’t decided to change anything from the physical preparation of the squad.

Team news: The coach will release the roster until Sunday. He has 20 players available as Dubarbier, Fede Cartabia, Borja Valle and Vicente Gómez are the man at the injury room. It’s expected that Edu Expósito will claim the spot of Vicente at the starting lineup.

Man to watch: Striker Quique González. The 28-year-old man is on fire after scoring braces in straight games. He now has the challenge to penetrate the best defensive line in the league.

Picked players: The roster will be released until Sunday

Predicted lineup: (4-3-1-2) Dani Giménez – David Simón, Pablo Mari, Domingos Duarte, Saúl – Edu Expósito, Mosquera, Didier Moreno – Carles Gil – Quique González, Carlos Fernández.

Málaga CF is the best example that a team doesn’t need the ball possession in order to have positive results. After seven matchdays the Andalusians never had a ball possession superior to the 50%, but still they won six of those seven meetings. Actually, they have the second worst average of ball possession in the league: 40.69%, only above Nástic with 40.04% (Depor have the second-best average with 55.06%).

The key for their success is a solid defence that doesn’t commit errors and a team that doesn’t lose the patience when the rival is pushing. Coach Juan Ramón López Muñiz was clear about this in a recent interview, “Sometimes the ball possession is fiction, I only care about the possession when you are on the rival’s side of the field. What matters is the chances that you create and the finalization of the plays.”

Team news: There are four casualties due to injury reasons: Álex Mula (knee ligaments), Juankar (knee sprain), Renato Santos (muscle) and Miguel Ángel Garrido Cifuentes 'Cifu' (adductor muscle). The coach picked twenty players for the game as he planned a training session in Abegondo scheduled for Saturday.

Man to watch: Striker Jack Harper. Málaga is more a team known for its strong defence than for its striking zone, but the Scottish attacker has been on the spotlight after scoring two goal in this start of season. He was supposed to alternate with the B squad, but so far the 22-year-old player is a starter at the senior team due to his performances. He is coming after scoring the winning goal against Rayo Majadahonda.

Picked players: (20) Munir Mohamedi, Pawel Kieszek (goalkeepers); Diego González, Luis Hernández, Pau Torres, Federico Ricca, David Lombán, Iván Rodríguez (defenders); Lacen, Adrián González, Juanpi Añor, Boulahroud, Javier Ontiveros, Alfred N’Diaye Hicham Boussefiane (midfielders); Gustavo Blanco, Héctor Hernández, Dani Pacheco, Mamadou Koné & Jack Harper (attackers).

Predicted lineup: (4-4-2) Munir – Iván Rodriguez, Luis Hernández, Pau Torres, Ricca - N'Diaye, Adrián, Juanpi, Ontiveros – Gustavo Blanco, Harper.
