NOTES FROM THE GAME VS FC REUS

29 Oct 2018
The fastest goal at Deportivo in eight years paved the road to a new victory, the presence of Pedro Sánchez was a surprise and a good move to open the game.

The six notes from the game Vs. F Reus

1- Undisputed at the Riazor: Once again Deportivo played a home game giving the feeling of been very superior to its rival. It’s a picture already repeated five times despite direct rivals like Granada CF and Málaga CF already passed through the Riazor.  Still, FC Reus have been the team that has had more opportunities to score: Seven. Five of those chances came within the last ten minutes, just when Depor had already reduced the intensity after claiming a two-goal lead.

2- Michelle Somma’s debut as a starter: First game as a starter in liga for the Italian. He gave a positive impression though FC Reus didn’t give too many problems in the first half and in a large part of the second part. His role was to cover the centre of the defence while Domingos Duarte was advancing in order to connect with the wingers and midfielders. He started to have problems at the end when the rival gave a step forward. A distraction from him almost cost a goal from Linares and had to leave the pitch due to a muscle problem.

3- The appearance of Pedro Sánchez: The big surprise before the kick-off was to see Carles Gil on the bench and Pedro Sánchez at the starting eleven. Second coach Tapia explained that the reason was to create doubt on the third centre-back of FC Reus as he would have to choose either to mark him or cover his normal position. The true is that it worked out as Pedro, together with Carlos Fernández, not only scored once, but were also the most dangerous players for Los Blanquiazules
.
4- Another great game by Edu Expósito: Edu Expósito is growing lately, after the exit of Didier Moreno from the starting eleven, the ex-Fabril is turning into a fixed starter. In this game he didn’t commit errors passing the ball and his vision was important as the tea moved forward.

5- First goal from a midfielder: Depor have now scored 18 goals on the season, 15 of them have been netted by strikers (7 for Quique, 5 for Carlos Fernández, 2 for Borja Valle and 1 for Christian Santos), and the news on this game is that a midfielder finally scored for the team. And it was playmaker Pedro Sánchez, who was making his first appearance since matchday 7 (September 30)

6- The fastest goal in eight years: Carlos Fernández scored the first goal for Depor after only 40 seconds, it’s the fastest goal on this Segunda season, and the fastest at Depor since Riki scored against Racing Santander during the Primera season 2009/10 (36 seconds, April 11, 2010).
