NOTES FROM THE GAME AT LAS PALMAS

05 Nov 2018
Depor rescued a point when the rival was playing better after failing countless crosses. The Galicians have rescued the same number of points than the ones lost with goals in the added time.

The six notes from the game at UD Las Palmas:

1- Again against the tide: Like it happened against Málaga CF, Depor were against the tide as the goal from UD Las Palmas put the game where they wanted: leading on the score and ready to define the game in a counterattack. Deportivo didn’t play well in the second part, but the fact of been able to rescue something for the second time speaks greatly of the spirit of the team.

2- Endless crosses: In big frames of the first and second half, Depor were moving the ball with ease at midfield territory, but in this game, due the defensive disposition of the rival, they were trying to pass the ball to the side and release a cross. In the end 32 crosses that were almost always finding a defender. Only five of them met the target, luckily for Depor the last one meant the equalizer.

3- Great game by Vicente Gómez: Canarian Vicente Gómez was returning home and he did it leading Deportivo. He was the best player for the Galicians, been the motor at midfield and the man that was doing different things. He made two dribbles at midfield that ended in scoring opportunities.

4- Big errors with the passes: Depor were playing with fire with risky passes that were close to cost goals. Álex Bergantiños lost the ball in 16 opportunities, many times allowing a counterattack for the rival, while the terrible passes of Carles Gil and Dani Giménez almost ended in goals during the second half. The high pressure of Las Palmas, and the insistent in moving the ball from the back without long throws, almost cost the defeat.

5- The complaint about the late goal: Manolo Jiménez complained that Depor’s goal came too late and that the referee shouldn’t have allowed the play of the corner. The true is that the ball from corner-kick was released at the 94:50 mark with Domingos Duarte heading the ball at the 94:53 mark, seven tenths of a second before the end of the added time.

6- Another point thanks to a late goal: Deportivo have suffered this season with the goals scored in the added time, the late goals scored by CD Tenerife and Córdoba CF meant to drop four points, but the Galicians have also rescued the same number of points in the same way. The victory over Sporting Gijón came with a goal at the last second of the added time.
