Cartabia rescued a point in a bad game for Deportivo, Natxo made early changes and the team suffered in the second part. Depor extend the unbeaten streak to nine games.

Coach Natxo González chose to play with Saúl Garcia on the left side of the defence, Diego Caballo was even dropped out of the bench. As the coach announced the day before, Christian Santos was a starter in attack.

Dani Giménez played at the goal, David Simón covered the right side in defence, Saúl was on the left, while the central positions were for Domingos Duarte and Pablo Mari. Álex Bergantiños, Vicente Gómez and Edu Expósito performed at midfield. Carles Gil was the playmaker and Quique González joined Christian Santos in attack.

At UD Almeria, coach Fran Fernández chose to play with José Corpas on the right wing. Ex-Depor Juan Carlos Real and striker Álvaro Giménez were the other references in attack.

Equal game in the first part; the pressure from UD Almeria dismantled Depor’s offensive structure, but later the locals missed aim and ideas. In the end the Galicians had the best opportunities despite not feeling comfortable on the pitch.

The game started with a low pace, both sides were exchanging the ball possession and there were no clear opportunities within the first ten minutes. Depor were facing a high pressure and didn’t have depth, while Almeria were trying to surprise with their speed, though tier first approximation came in a set-piece. It was a free-kick of Juan Carlos blocked by Álex (11’).

The Galicians were having big problems in the output of the ball, Álex was under a big pressure and there were some errors with the passes at the back, but the Andalusians weren’t able to capitalize these mismatches.

The first chance for Depor came at minute 17, Carles Gil stole the ball at midfield and assisted Edu Expósito, who fired from the edge of the area with local keeper René Román Hinojo clearing the danger with both fists. That was the only shot on target in the first part.

Quique González had a good chance at minute 24, Saúl made the run on the left in a good collective play and his low cross was collected by the striker inside the area, but he sent the ball out despite been alone.

Deportivo have had the best opportunities until this point, but continued without feeling comfortable on the pitch. UD Almería were insisting with their quick plays, but at the same time they never completed a shot on target in this half.

The last chance for Depor came at minute 40, a long pass from Dani Giménez wasn’t cleared properly by the local defence, Carles Gil ran and ended alone before keeper Rene, but the playmaker instead of attempting a shot he assisted Quique, who lost the ball before the pressure of three rivals.

Bad half for Depor, the early changes didn’t help and the Blanquiazul team was at the mercy of the rival for big part of the half. Only a strike of Cartabia was able to clean the poor impression left on the pitch.

Natxo didn’t like what he saw in the first part and ordered two substitutions, Krohn-Dehli and Didier Moreno entered for Carles Gil and Edu Expósito. The modifications didn’t work, because the locals had a stronger start and were dominating the actions.

UD Almeria made their first shot on target at minute 48, it was a corner-kick from the left that Saveljich headed on target and Dani Giménez made the save. Despite this action, the Andalusians missed fresh ideas to end their plays. They had the ball, but later they were missing the target or their crosses were not finding a receiver.

Natxo made the third substitution and Cartabia replaced Vicente Gómez. It neither worked as Depor continued to be a plane team on the pitch, though the Argentine was going to be decisive in order to rescue a point.

Juan Carlos had a big chance at minute 68, substitute Narváez released a cross from the left after a distraction from Didier Moreno, and the ex-Depor man headed the ball out. The goal from the locals seemed near, but Deportivo were holding on… until a great strike from Juan José Narváez arrived. He was assisted by Andoni inside the area and he released a powerful shot into the far corner of Dani Giménez.

It seemed the game was over, Depor continued to miss the road to the rival’s goal, but an isolated play was going to mean the equalizer. Didier Moreno got the ball at midfield, he assisted Fede Cartabia, who released a curved shot from outside the area, keeper René Román was bad placed and could only deflect the ball into the far post.

The visiting side was rescuing a point and could have even achieved the victory, a long throw from Dani Giménez at the last minute was headed by Christian Santos, the ball went into the path of Quique González, who ran into the area to release a shot that was deflected by a defender, though the referee didn’t concede the corner-kick.

Bad game by Deportivo. The Galician outfit never knew how to face a combative UD Almería that deserved the lead and more, but that dropped two points after the great strike of Cartabia poorly deflected by René Román.

Deportivo have now spent nine straight games without defeats, but it’s now fourth at the standings after the results from the direct rivals. The next game is the visit of CA Osasuna to the Riazor (Saturday, 18h00 CET).
