Deportivo surpassed the pitch conditions led by Fede Cartabia, the tactics of Natxo worked out and the team secured a new home victory.

The five notes from the game Vs. CA Osasuna.

1- Under water: Deportivo played against the elements and won the game, the flooded pitch was a big problem for both teams as it was impossible to build up attacks through passes over the grass, but the Galicians managed to surpass the problem and in the end they were the team with the best opportunities to score.

2- Focused on the right flank: Natxo González explained during the press conference that the offensive tactic of Depor was to focus the attacks on the right wing, because Clerc was the weakest link at the visiting side. For this reason Fede Cartabia and Quique González were playing towards this side, and it worked out as the best opportunities came on this flank (both goals and the shot of Cartabia that hit the post).

3- The modifications: Depor were coming from a game in which the changes were a disaster, now at least one of them helped to make the difference. CA Osasuna were dominating and surrounding Depor’s area at the start of the second half, then Natxo replaced Krohn-Dehli with Edu Expósito, Depor passed to play with a 4-2-3-1, the team started to feel more comfortable and the second goal arrived. The next two changes, the entries of Didier Moreno and Christian Santos, didn’t have the same impact in the game, though at this point the coach was more worried in resting Quique and Vicente.

4- Two assists for Cartabia: Fede Cartabia was the best player in the game, he was the man making different things on the pitch and his performance was crowned with two assists. It’s the second time on the season in which a Depor’s player makes two assists in one single game. The previous time was Saúl García against Gimnástic Tarragona (September 30).

5- The saves by Dani Giménez: There were doubts when Dani Giménez landed at Depor, now he is the undisputed starter at the goal. And games lie the one against CA Osasuna explain why. The Navarrans dominated the game in some stages, but only had four clear chances to score, and those attempts came in key moments in the game. One of them at the end of the first part and the play ended with Depor’s goalie clearing the ball over the bar when the score was 1-0, later in the game Dani prevented a late reaction from CA Osasuna, it was a double save against Unai and Oier (84’). A good keeper isn’t only the one that makes a lot of saves, but also the one that appears in key moments to prevent goals.
