NOTES FROM THE GAME VS RAYO MAJADAHONDA

04 Dec 2018
New solid demonstration of the defence to add a point in the second game in which the offence ends scoreless. Depor have now tied the best unbeaten streak on this century.

The five notes from the game at Rayo Majadahonda:

1- Deceiving score: It’s hard to explain how this game ended scoreless. Just like Majadahonda’s coach, Antonio Iriondo, hinted one day before, his team likes to practice good football and the result was to see an open game in which both sides were finding enough space in attack. But either the lack of aim or the saves by both goalkeepers prevented the celebration of goals.

2- Solid defence: Deportivo can presume of having the best defence at Segunda, the best because it has enough options to always present a solid performance. Domingos Duarte was out suspended, the same with David Simón, but their replacements Michelle Somma and Eneko Bóveda covered the spots leaving the same impression.

Somma was the one facing the most tough situation, because Didier Moreno was always arriving late, which forced the Italian centre-back to move forward in disadvantage, and he had to play big part of the game dragging a yellow card. Depor also suffered after the entry of Aitor García, unexplainedly the best attacker from the local team entered until the second half, and he damaged in the counterattack and arriving from the second line in set-pieces. It was then that the other part of the equation appears: Dani Giménez. The keeper made 3 key saves and demonstrated once again why he should be considered as one of Depor’s best signings during the summer.

3- Playing with three centre-backs: New variant shown by Natxo González, precisely in order to counter the entry of Aitor García. Edu Expósito got injured and the coach decided to play with three centre-backs, Bóveda moved to the centre in order to close the gaps and avoid the local counterattack, at the same time the idea was to seize the offensive presence of Gerard Valentín on the right wing.

4- Scoreless for the second time on the season: This is the second time this season with Depor unable to score a goal. After sixteen matchdays, plus a game in Copa Del Rey, only in other opportunity Deportivo ended scoreless and it was in the only defeats in liga: 1-0 at AD Alcorcón.

5- Tying the best unbeaten streak on this century: Deportivo have now spent eleven matchdays without losing. It’s the best mark at the club on this century tied with the one achieved by Oltra’s Depor on the campaign 2011/12. At the time Depor clinched 10 wins and 1 draw, the current streak is 6 victories and 5 draws.
