MATCHDAY 16: EQUAL RACE

The first round is about to end and there’s an intense battle between the first places, also the fight to avoid demotion is tight. Depor remain second; Zaragoza is back into the pit.

The results in the weekend have left a closer fight at the top of the standings, because the first eight places are only separated by eight points. The first two places remained at their positions despite been unable to win. AD Alcorcón lost for the third time on the season as they were beaten by Albacete Balompié (2-1).

Los Manchegos are now fourth after chaining seven straight games without losing. Deportivo could only add a point in a goalless draw visiting Rayo Majadahonda. Granada CF clinched a huge 0-1 win visiting Málaga CF ad are now tied in point with Depor, while the Andalusians were pushed back into the fifth position.

RCD Mallorca is another team on fire, they best FC Reus on the road (0-2) and have chained seven straight games without losing. It’s the same streak for Cádiz CF, side that beat Real Zaragoza at La Romareda (0-1). The streak of Cádiz FC is even better considering they have chained six straight victories, nobody else at Primera or Segunda have chained that streak during this season.

CA Osasuna also remain in a positive line, the Navarrans needed a late goal in order to defeat CD Lugo (1-0) and have now won four of their last five games. Meanwhile, UD Las Palmas and Real Oviedo cancelled each other with a goalless draw at Estadio De Gran Canaria.

The home defeat of Real Zaragoza at La Romareda is pushing the Aragonian team back into relegation. As it happens at the top of the standings, there’s also a close fight in order to avoid demotion, because the last eight places are only separated by six points.

Córdoba CF and Elche CF are among those clubs and ended drawing 1-1; Gimnástic Tarragona remain as the bottom club as they were trashed by CD Numancia (3-0). CD Tenerife also remain in that fight after losing at Sporting Gijón (2-1). Extremadura UD remain in danger, though they rescued a point visiting UD Almeria (1-1).

MATCHDAY 17: BIG GAMES IN MAJORCA AND ALBACETE
Two big games at the top of the standings. Sixth place RCD Mallorca host fifth spot Málaga CF, while fourth place Albacete Balompié entertains eighth spot CA Osasuna. The first two places have more accessible meetings, AD Alcorcón play at home against relegation-troubled C Reus, while Deportivo host CD Numancia.

The matchday is completed with other seven games: CD Tenerife Vs. Extremadura UD; Gimnástic Tarragona Vs. Granada CF; Real Oviedo Vs. UD Almería; Cádiz CF Vs. Rayo Majadahonda; Elche Vs. Sporting Gijón; CD Lugo Vs. UD Las Palmas & Real Zaragoza Vs. Córdoba CF.
