LAFITA: "IT'S FUNDAMENTAL TO WIN ON SUNDAY"

04 Jan 2008
?ngel Lafita is finally awakening after a doubtful start of season, the Aragonian spoke with newspaper La Opini??n A Coru?±a and admitted that he wasn't fine in a physical aspect at the beginning of the campaign, he also admitted to be more comfortable performing as a playmaker than as a right winger.

Q: Do you feel comfortable now or do you miss playing at the right wing?
A: The truth is that I'm fine. It's a position in which I'm more comfortable than at the wing, because it gives you freedom and in a defensive aspect, you don't need to work so much. You are more fresh attacking, and have much more participation moving the ball, any player will feel more comfortable in that position.

Q: Would you like to stay there?
A: Yes, without doubt.

Q: The club fought for your signing and then you were put in the bench. It wasn't normal.
A: Yes, but I wasn't good during my first matches, I wasn't fine in a physical aspect and everybody could notice that. Later we reached a break and it was good for me in order to regain my condition and to return to the top, it's now when the opportunities are arriving for me, we need to take advantage of the chances. I think I can do it and continue with my good moment.

Q: What has changed?
A: Specially my physical condition and my confidence, two pillars for any player. Now I have that and with both things, you can grow in every match.

Q: What do you think about the comparisons with Valer??n?
A: Physically or for the way I play? (he laughs)

Q: Physically. Playing...
A: Yes, because for the way in which I play, I still have a long road to go. I would like to be like him. Anyway, I am pleased to see people comparing me to him, no matter why.

Q: You made a great game in the copa.
A: I was satisfied in a personal sense, but with a bittersweet taste. I had a clear occasion that I couldn't fulfil. I saw it a thousand times already and I scored one thousand goals in my mind, but these things happen. Not everything can end in good things and we need to work hard, especially in the area of scoring goals.

Q: You are on loan on here. Zaragoza could try to see you returning.
A: It would be good to see Deportivo fulfilling the buyout option. I like to be in this team for a while. This is a year in which I am playing a lot of things in my career, and I'm fighting in order to stay.

Q: Why?
A: Because I feel like a football player here, at Deportivo, they trust more in me. With this I don't want to say that Zaragoza wasn't trusting in me, but the competence was bigger, I had few occasions. Here I have more confidence and I am happier.

Q: Don't you feel like a Zaragocista?
A: Since I'm here and I'm dressed with the Blanquiazul shirt, I always do my best for this shirt, as long as I'm here, I will give everything for Deportivo. It's necessary to be a professional and to respond to the club that owes your rights.

Q: Did you feel uncomfortable or questioned at any moment?
A: Man, at the beginning I wasn't at my best and people noticed that. Questioned? Well yes, it's logical, because you face all the pressure to make things right. I was coming as an important signing for Deportivo and I wasn't giving what we needed, therefore it's normal to feel the pressure and to feel questioned. Now I think I'm doing what I want to do, but the important thing is to change the results and to leave this complicate zone behind us.

Q: Where you expecting this when you arrived?
A: The truth is that you never expect to be at the bottom, you expect to have a season in which you can aspire to important things, but now the situation is like this, very complicated, nobody likes this and it's tough, but now it's when we have to see who are the players for real and who should mark the differences. It's time to give the face.

Q: Are you one of those who mark the difference?
A: Yes, of course.

Q: What's happening to the squad?
A: Always the same, but I believe that Deportivo is fine. We were superior to Espanyol in the first-leg and also in this game, but goals are the ones that rule in football. We have to materialise the occasions. Espanyol had two chances and they scored twice. We had a lot and were only able to score from the penalty spot.

Q: What should Lotina ask to the magic kings?
A: Only Lotina? I believe it's the entire team who should ask something: to win on Sunday, it's fundamental.

Q: More than new signings?
A: Well, that's a matter of the president and the coach. We ask to win on Sunday and with solvency.
