REVIEW: FABRIL 1 – VALLADOLID B 1 (SEGUNDA B)

07 Jan 2019
A sparkless Fabril rescued a point only after Guillermo May entered the pitch to gain a ball inside the area. The lads end the first round with only three victories and far from salvation.

BEFORE THE GAME
Coach Sergio Pellicer wasn’t counting with Blas Alonso and Bicho for injury reasons. Once again, the coach was relying in Jorge Valín, who in this opportunity was playing as right-back.

The draw was a 4-2-3-1 figure. Álex Cobo was the starting goalie, Valín covered the right side in defence, Lucas Viña played on the left, Raúl González and Quique Fornos were the centre-backs. Carlos López and Iago Gandoy were the centre midfielders, Diego Villares attacked from the left wing, Víctor García did it from the right, Joni Montiel was the playmaker and Uxío Dapena was the centre forward.

The rival was Real Valladolid B, Los Pucelanos arrived into the new year in a good mood after only losing one of their previous seven games. Coach Miguel Rivera was having his best scorer on the pitch: Waldo Rubio (5). And he was also counting in ex-Fabril Jardel, who was a starter before Miguel De La Fuente (4 goals on the season).

THE MATCH
The game started with a great opportunity for the visiting side, Kike Pérez collected a low cross from the right and he missed the target when he was alone before Álex Cobo (1’).  Uxío completed the first shot on target for Fabril and it was contained by visiting goalie Samu Pérez (7’).

Fabril were having the ball, but Valladolid B were giving problems each time they were stepping into the rival’s area, meanly through Jardel. At minute 16, a free-kick of Montiel couldn’t be cleared by the visiting defence and the ball passed close to the far post.

The game was jammed at the middle of the first part, neither Víctor García nor Villares were having depth on the sides, and at the centre Montiel was only appearing at times. Therefore, the locals weren’t having opportunities.

At minute 27, Montiel was close to connect the ball at the edge of the area after a short pass from Uxío and he was fouled. The local players asked for the penalty, but the referee whistled a free-kick that Montiel smashed into the wall.

Jardel picked an injury and he was replaced by José Luis Zalazar. The injury affected the visiting side as it lost in reference in attack. Then the game became boring as nothing was happening, and when the half was going to end Fabril committed a huge error that cost a goal.

Carlos López picked the ball inside the area after a pass from the keeper, he attempted the output of the ball, but didn’t realize that Waldo was in front of him, he lost the ball and the rival assisted Dani Pedrosa, who only had to push the ball in before an empty net.

The second half started with Juanje replacing Diego Villares and with a Fabril pushing in attack, at minute 48 a corner-kick of Montiel was headed by Uxío and the ball hit the crossbar.

But this push only lasted a couple of minutes. Fabril returned to be the flat team of the first half and Valladolid B were only watching the time pass.  So, the only chances were coming in set-pieces. At minute 57, a corner-kick of Juanje was headed by Raúl Gonzálezand the ball went over the crossbar.

Valladolid B had a good chance to score at minute 65, it was a counterattack in which the cross of Kike Pérez was poorly cleared by the defence and then Salazar missed the target firing from the edge of the area. Four minutes later Waldo found a loose ball at the edge of the area after a corner-kick and his low shot was saved by Álex Cobo.

The second substitution at Fabril was the entry of Guillermo May for Carlos López and the Uruguayan was going to score the equalizer with only three minutes on the field. A collective play at the edge of the area ended with Montiel attempting a low shot, the ball hit May and the Uruguayan was faster enough to collect the ball before a rival and score with a low and crossed shot.

The goal injected morale to the local players and Valladolid B were locked at their side of the pitch for the first time in the game. Fabril continued lacking aim, but at least it was arriving and having countless corner-kicks.

Valladolid B could have won the gam at minute 84, Al Hacen collected the ball at the edge of the area and his strong and low shot was brilliantly saved by Álex Cobo. Fabril replied with Uxío collecting a long pass from the defence and his acrobatic shot from the edge of the area went out (86’). The last substitution for Fabril was the entry of Gaizka Martinez for Iago Gandoy.

AFTER THE GAME
Fabril were a shadow in the major part of the meeting, it didn’t have spark and neither ideas to create chances. It committed a huge error that cost a goal and only rescued the point after Guillermo May came out from the bench. The team ends the first round with only three victories and seven points away from safety. The second round will start with Internacional de Madrid visiting Abegondo (Saturday, 16h30 CET).
