Raúl Albentosa has rescinded his contract with Deportivo. The centre-back left Nástic some weeks ago and the club was searching to transfer him, in the end the Valencian player is leaving for free.

Late on Wednesday, the club informed that it has rescinded the contract of Raúl Albentosa. The centre-back was loaned to Gimnástic Tarragona at the start of the season, he played eleven games there and wasn’t happy with his participation, so Deportivo recovered him at the end of December and was searching to complete a transfer, and in the end both parties decided that the best was to cancel his contract.

Albentosa was signed by Deportivo in July of 2016. He sealed a four-year contract as a petition of former coach Gaizka Garitano in a deal with Derby County FC that cost around €1 million. Previously, he had impressed playing with SD Eibar, club where he passed from Segunda B to Primera in a mater of two years.

But his career at Depor wasn’t as impressing as in his previous stage. For the season 2016/17, he was the most booked player at the team (ten yellows and one red card) and the fans were looking to him as a “threat” for the cost of his actions. Even Garitano benched him after a series of unfortunate plays that cost points. With the arrival of Pepe Mel to the bench, the Valencian became the third choice for the centre of the defence and played in the final games just because Sidnei was injured.

The club decided to keep him ahead of the campaign 2017/18, and he continued to be one of the most criticized players at the team, and it wasn’t for nothing as he was still committing errors that turned to be really expensive, like his poor coverage in the play that cost the expulsion of Kóval against SD Eibar (1-1, March 03). At least he improved a lot in the last stretch after Clarence Seedorf made him the first choice for the centre of the defence; 11 of his 20 appearances in liga took place with the Dutchman on the bench. In the end the relegation to Segunda opened the doors to his exit on loan.

The comment is that Albentosa will now join Japanese club Vissel Kobe. This is the second exit of Deportivo during the winter window, previously right-back Gerard Valentín was loaned to Segunda club CD Lugo.

He talked to newspapaper La Opinión A Coruña about his exit, “The first thing is to thank Nàstic for everything they have done for me during the time I have been there. They have treated me very well until the last day. I spoke with Deportivo and we decided that we had to finish this stage. In recent days, I have been in contact with the club and we value the possibility of being released. It was the best for both parties. Now, the market is open and my intention is to go out of Spain. Together with my family, we would like to live a new experience and get to know other cultures.”

“During the summer, I had options to go out to great teams in Spain and Europe, but nothing came of it. Sometimes it was for me and others for Deportivo. Even so, I have nothing to reproach to the club. Now I really want to face a new challenge. I'm very motivated. In football you never stop learning and I want to continue on that path. I don’t know what will happen in the next days. At Nàstic I have enjoyed a lot, although things haven’t gone well. I’m 30; I’m in the best moment of my career and the hope remains intact.” The defender added.
