FC REUS SUSPENDED

30 Jan 2019
La Liga has suspended FC Reus for 3 years after been unable to fulfill the financial rules. The Segunda tournament will now be disputed by the remaining 21 clubs.

New turn in the case of FC Reus. The competition judge has decided to suspend the Catalan club for three years after failing to fulfill the financial rules of la liga. They were also finned €250,000. This means that the Segunda tournament is now only composed by 21 clubs.

Last week US Real State Investment announced that they have bought FC Reus, they even released an official statement assuring that they were ready to take the club to the next level and improve the stadium, but one week later things were still confuse. The company told the media that they found a bigger debt of the announced one by FC Reus (€5 million), while seven new players, including ex-Depor Juan Dominguez, requested their freedom.

The mess was so big that there were contradictions inside of the Catalan club. Joan Oliver was the owner and president until the arrival of US Real State Investment, and he signed the papers to rescind the seven players that requested their freedom, but the new president, Curt Onalfo, supported by La Liga and the Spanish Federation, denied the authenticity of these papers and are trying to avoid their exit.

Everything was confusing until the judge finally announced his decision. Now FC Reus has 15 days to present an appeal before the Administrative Court of Sport. They already announced that they will appeal.

PROCEDURE IN THE SECOND ROUND
As soon as the decision of the competition judge is cleared of any appeal, then it will be legal and the Segunda tournament will pass to be a competition of 21 clubs, this means that each matchday of the second round will have 10 games with one team resting. Each of these 21 teams will add the 3 points of the second round meeting with FC Reus and the official score will be 1-0.

One of the winners with this situation is Deportivo, because it clears a lot the picture in March. The visit to FC Reus was scheduled for March 17, now Depor will rest that weekend and will enjoy of three straight games at the Riazor: AD Alcorcón (March 3), UD Las Palmas (March 10) and UD Almeria (March 24).
