REVIEW: FABRIL 2 – BURGOS 0 (SEGUNDA B)

11 Feb 2019
Luisito debuted with Fabril clinching the first victory in 2019. The team had big problems to create scoring chances, but the goals arrived during the final minutes.

BEFORE THE GAME
Luisito was making his debut on the bench, the third coach of the season arrived as a desperate measure searching for the salvation. Lucas Viña was the only casualty for the game as the left-back was injured.

The draw was a 4-3-3. Álex Cobo was the starting goalie, Jorge Valín covered the right side in defence, Juanmi Carrión played on the left, Quique Fornos and Steve One were the centre-backs. The centre midfielders were Carlos López, Ignacio Abeledo and Arturo Segado. the trio in attack was composed by Víctor García, Jonathan Montiel and Uxío Dapena.

The rival was Burgos CF. The team coached by Fernando Estévez is also in relegation, but only lost one of the previous seven games winning four of those meetings. They presented a scheme with five defenders and two strikers led by Diego Cervero.

THE MATCH
Fabril had the initiative since the start, the locals looked motivated, but weren’t creating chances to score. Visiting goalie Mikel Saizar appeared for the first time until minute 11 and it was to punch the ball in a corner-kick that the defence couldn’t clear before.

More dangerous was the first approximation for Burgos CF, it was a counterattack in which Cervero failed inside the box as he headed the ball out (14’). Fabril were having long ball possessions, but later it was unable to pass the wall of five defenders put by Burgos CF.

Burgos CF were well placed on the pitch and never suffered before the local pressure, but later they didn’t create any harm in attack. Their best offensive play was a series of rebounds inside the area that ended with a shot of Fer Ruiz that was blocked by Valín (37’). The only shot on target in the half took place three minutes later as a header of Fer Ruiz was caught by Álex Cobo.

For the second half, Fabril switched the draw and it was now a 4-2-3-1, but the situation didn’t change, because the locals continued having the ball possession and at the same time missed depth to create a scoring chance.

The first clear opportunity for Fabril came a minute 58, a long collective play ended with Uxío fighting for the ball inside the area against four rivals, he then assisted Carlos López and the shot of the midfielder passed close to the near post (58’)

The first modification at Fabril was the entry of Guillermo May for Uxío. The Uruguayan had was going to be important and his first chance to score came after collecting a cross of Abeledo from the right, but his header went over the crossbar (70’).

It seemed the game was destined to end goalless, but then Burgos CF got distracted in an isolated play and it cost a goal to them. Steve One was having the ball at the edge of Fabril’s area, then he released a low clearance that passed through midfield and between three visiting players, nobody touched it and it ended finding Guillermo May, who ran into the area to end scoring with a strong shot.

The goal changed the game in the final minutes as Fabril started to find cracks in the visiting defence, at minute 80, a cross of Semedo was poorly defended and Andrés González was a about to score an own goal, but Undabarrena cleared the danger at the goal line.

Juanje replaced Víctor García and the second goal arrived, Juanje sent a high cross from the left, once again the visiting defence poorly cleared the ball and Carlos López assisted Montiel, and the playmaker scored with a precise shot from the edge of the area.

Javi Cobo was the last substitution as he replaced Montiel and Fabril could have scored a third goal in the added time and it was going to be similar to the first one. A new long clearance from the defence left May alone against Saizar, but this this time the Uruguayan attacker tried to chop the ball over the keeper and his attempt ended hitting the crossbar and going out (90+3’).

AFTER THE GAME
Refreshing victory for a Fabril that still trying to fight for the permanence. It wasn’t a pretty game, but at least there weren’t defensive errors as in previous matches. This is the first win in 2019 and the first since the 4-3 over Real Madrid Castilla (December 1). Fabril remain at the bottom of the standings and their next game is the visit to CF Salmantino (Sunday 17h00 CET).
