VITOR SILVA ON TRIAL AT DEPOR

20 Feb 2019
The club informed on Tuesday that Portuguese Vítor Silva is on trial with the first team. The 35-year-old centre midfielder is training with the first team and his final signings depends of the injured players

Vitor Silva has joined the trainings with the first team. The club informed that the 35-year-old centre midfielder is on trial and his final incorporation will depend on the evolution of the injured players. The first team has a spot available and the club wasn’t thinking of making a signing after failing to capture Gaku Shibasaki on deadline day.

But the latest injury problems have changed the mind of Carmelo Del Pozo. Currently there are three centre midfielders on the sidelines: Michael Krohn-Dehli (Achilles), Vicente Gómez (foot sprain) and Pedro Mosquera (thigh). The situation with Krohn-Dehli is the more sensitive one as it isn’t clear when the Danish player could be available, precisely the profile of the Portuguese is very similar to he one of Krohn-Dehli.

According to Radio Marca, if Krohn-Dehli is recovered in one month or less, then Silva won’t be inscribed, but if the scans determine that the Danish midfielder will be out between one and five months, then the Portuguese will be inscribed using the available slot. There’s even the chance to search for another signing, because according to the rules in la liga a long-term case of Krohn-Dehli (more than five months) opens the chance to replace him with another player currently performing in Spain, and in this case the club would negotiate a loan or even a transfer of another player.

Vitor Silva in an offensive centre-midfielder with a long career in Portugal playing for Sporting CP, Paços de Ferreira, União Madeira and Penafiel. He has been in Spain since 2015 playing for FC Reus. He was a fixed starter in the team that conquered the promotion to Segunda A during the season 2015/16, later he made 36 appearances at Liga 1|2|3 between 2016 and 2018 scoring 4 goals.

The Portuguese midfielder left FC Reus at the start of the season due to their financial problems, he couldn’t be inscribed in la liga and both sides decided to rescind his contract. It was considered as an important casualty as he was the best midfielder at the team, but the salary cap problems forced his exit. He has been training by himself since September and now lands at Deportivo.
