REVIEW: MÁLAGA 0 – DEPORTIVO 0 (LIGA)

Solid game by Depor visiting a direct rival, but the Galicians missed ideas and aim. The best came at the end with both sides having the chance to earn the three points.

BEFORE THE GAME
Pedro Mosquera was the main novelty for the game, the Galician midfielder was a starter leaving Vicente Gómez on the bench. The rest was the predicted lineup that was tested by coach Natxo González throughout the week.

Dani Giménez was the starting goalie, David Simón covered the right side in defence, Diego Caballo played on the left, Domingos Duarte and Pablo Mari covered the central positions. Mosquera joined Álex Bergantiños at midfield, Fede Cartabia attacked from the right wing, Borja Valle did it from the left, Edu Expósito was the playmaker and Quique González was the centre forward.

At Málaga CF, coach Juan Ramón López Muñiz surprised as he was playing with a 4-4-2 figure. Erik Moran was left on the bench, Iván Alejo attacked from the right wing, while Adrián González joined Blanco Leschuk in attack.

FIRST HALF
Equal first half, Depor were well placed and slightly controlled the actions, but it didn’t create clear chances to score. Málaga CF were defending well, but later lacked depth and ideas in attack. The best in the game came at the end with one clear chance to score for each side.

The start was equal; Depor were trying to attack, but wasn’t ending the plays. Meanwhile, the Galicians were imprecise in defence, but Málaga never seized these cracks as the locals were missing the last pass. The Galicians were looking well placed, but later lacked precision in offensive possessions.

The first approximation in the game was a counterattack for Depor that ended with Pedro Mosquera missing the target with a shot from the edge of the area (22’). The first shot on target came at minute 29, Edu Expósito collected the ball at the edge of the area and his low shot was blocked by local goalie Munir Mohamedi.

The best play in the half came at minute 42, a combinative play for Deportivo ended in a cross from the left that reached the path of Borja Valle, the striker didn’t connect the ball properly and it went out close to the far post.

And Málaga CF protested a penalty at the last minute, Dani Pacheco collected a cross from the left when he was inside the area and his shot hit the elbow of David Simón and went out. The locals protested a penalty, but the arm of the defender was attached to the body.

SECOND HALF
After a doubtful start, Deportivo followed the path of the first half and controlled a rival that always seemed content with the draw. The excitement came at the end as both teams had opportunities to win the meeting.

The final part started with two straight chances for Málaga. A lack of communication between Pablo Mari and Dani Giménez allowed Diego González to fire from the box, but the keeper reacted brilliantly and made the save (48’), in the next play Dani Pacheco made a low shot that was blocked by Dani Giménez.

Depor were lost on the pitch, but soon started to regain control of the ball. Their first chance in the half came at minute 57, Borja Valle collected the ball at the edge of the area and his crossed and low shot was saved by Munir.

At minute 67, a great play by Edu Expósito allowed Cartabia to fire from the left side of the area, but the Argentine playmaker missed the target. The first change of Depor as the entry of Vicente Gómez for Mosquera.

The second substitution at Depor was the entry of Pedro Sánchez for Fede Cartabia. The Argentine didn’t have a good game and the substitutions helped Deportivo as the visiting side was looking better.

Quique Gonzálezhad the next chance to score with a crossed shot saved by Munir (77’). And Borja Valle could have scored ay minute 81, the striker collected the ball inside the area after a secondary play in a corner-kick but hi shot was blocked by Munir.

The game was boring, because there wasn’t excitement due to the lack of chances to score. But things changed within he last ten minutes as it gave the impression that the first team to have a chance would win the game, and the feeling was increased as both sides had a chance to score.

At minute 83, a good combinative play ended with Edu Expósito firing from inside the area, but the ball was deflected by a rival. The last chance for Málaga CF was a shot of substitute Jack Harper that was saved by Dani Giménez (85’). The last substitution of Depor was the entry of Somma for Borja Valle.

AFTER THE GAME
Point for a Deportivo that controlled the game, but that lacked more ideas and scoring opportunities. Dani Giménez made a couple of good saves, Borja Valle and Cartabia didn’t have a good game and they missed the best opportunities for the Galicians.

The draw leaves Deportivo at the fifth position, still in the fight for direct promotion. Now Depor play three straight games at the Riazor, the first team visiting A Coruña is AD Alcorcón (Monday, 21h00 CET).
