A serious team with big problems to create offensive plays, a point and Depor have a new advantage over a direct rival.

The five notes from the game Vs. Málaga CF:

1- A reliable team: A boring game only rescued by a team that showed again to have the right attitude for the occasion. Depor have only lost three times on the season and the personality of the team in this game demonstrates that it isn’t an accident. A team that barely commits errors will have lesser chance to lose, in this game there was only an error and Dani Giménez was there to fix it. Once again Depor had the ball and didn’t suffer, the problems came moving forward.

2- Lacking an offensive reference: Deportivo had the ball, but it didn’t create to many scoring opportunities. A lot of it had to do with the absence of an offensive reference. Cartabia only made 29 passes and Edu Expósito 33. Without someone drilling a pass, Quique González and Borja Valle barely reached the ball. The entry of Vicente Gómez improved the scenario, but it wasn’t enough to score a goal.

3- Borja Valle lost on the wing: Once again Borja Valle left the impression of been lost performing as a winger in a 4-2-3-1 formation. The attacker, like in past games, was making bad decisions at the moment of choosing either making a pass of making a solo play. He only completed 36 passes and, to make things worse, he failed in the best opportunity for Depor in the game (81’)

4- Álex and Domingos Duarte had the ball: Without an offensive reference, the game was passing through the boots of Álex Bergantiños and Domingos Duarte. The output of the ball was their responsibility and it partially explains the lack of ideas in the transition defence-attack. Álex was the player on the field that completed more passes (60), and the second on the list was Duarte (56).

5- A new tiebreaker: New positive outcome for Depor after closing another tie with a direct rival for the promotion. Depor already won the tiebreaker to Granada CF and Albacete Balompié, and now it has the advantage over Málaga CF. Because the meetings between both clubs ended in draws (1-1 & 0-0), but Depor have a better goal difference (+18 Vs. +10), so the Galicians are facing a positive situation in case of having a draw in points at the end of the season, which is highly possible taking in mind the close difference among the first five places.
