DEPORTIVO IN MARCH

28 Feb 2019
Atypical month for Depor with three straight games at the Riazor and a week off. The first three rivals are mid-table teams hurrying the options to enter the promotion zone. The other is the second-best team of the second round.

The situation at the standings remains tight and Deportivo will have the chance to finally settle among the first two place as it will play three straight home games, but it won’t be easy as these rivals are at mid-table and want to squeeze points in order to improve their chances of reaching the promotion zone.

The first rival in the month is AD Alcorcón. The Madrilenians were the leaders at the end of November, but since then have buffered a long bump that already pushed them out of the promotion zone. Los Alfareros have lost eight of the twelve league games disputed since December.

The last five games by Alcorcón:

Matchday 23 ALCORCON  2 CORDOBA 1
Matchday 24 MALLORCA 2 ALCORCON 0
Matchday 25 ALCORCON 1 CADIZ 2
Matchday 26 OVIEDO 1 ALCORCON 0
Matchday 27 ALCORCON 2 LAS PALMAS 0

After that, Depor host UD Las Palmas, the biggest disappointment of the season. The Canarians were among the favourites for the promotion as they had one of the biggest salary caps, but at this height in the competition they are seven points under the sixth place. They are strong at home, but only won twice on the road.

The last five games by Las Palmas:

Matchday 23 NASTIC 0 LAS PALMAS 0
Matchday 24 LAS PALMAS 1 ZARAGOZA 1
Matchday 25 MALAGA 0 LAS PALMAS 0
Matchday 26 LAS PALMAS 1 SPORTING 0
Matchday 27 ALCORCON 2 LAS PALMAS 0

The fact that Deportivo will play three straight games at home is possible as the visit to FC Reus will not take place due to the disqualification of the Catalans. So, after a week off, the Galicians will play at home again as UD Almeria visit the Riazor. The Andalusians are making a solid season and currently are only four points under the promotion zone, this is possible after only losing one of their last ten games in the tournament.

The last five games by Almeria:

Matchday 22 ALMERIA 0 CADIZ 0
Matchday 23 ALMERIA 0 OSASUNA 1
Matchday 24 MALAGA 1 ALMERIA 1
Matchday 25 ALMERIA 1 NUMANCIA 0
Matchday 27 ALMERIA 3 CORDOBA 1

March ends with the only visit and the most difficult game in the period: Real Oviedo. The Asturians looked really week in 2018, but in the new year there has been a radical change as the team have won six of the eight games played in 2019; actually they are the second-best team in the second round adding 13 points, one more than Depor and only thee less than CA Osasuna

The last five games by Oviedo:

Matchday 23 ZARAGOZA 2 OVIEDO 0
Matchday 24 OVIEDO 2 CADIZ 1
