MATCHDAY 33: DISTANCE AT THE TOP

The race for direct promotion seems now a matter of three clubs; Depor changed the coach and the battle at the bottom remains hot.

The results on the matchday have opened a small gap between the third and the fourth place, which could be definitive at this height in the competition and the battle for direct promotion seems to be a matter of three clubs. Leaders CA Osasuna were close to lose visiting CD Lugo, but a late goal from ex-Depor Xisco meant  a point for them (2-2).

Now they are only one point above Granada CF, side that achieved a huge victory over direct rival Málaga CF (1-0). Albacete Balompié remain third after an important win visiting AD Alcorcón (0-1). With these results the difference between the third and fourth place is of 5 points with 9 games to go.

Deportivo remain in depression and this time the Galicians were humiliated by Rayo Majadahonda (0-2), the Riazor had enough and Natxo González was fired and replaced by Jose Luis Martí. RCD Mallorca are there too after adding the points of the game against FC Reus.

Then the situation with Cádiz CF, the Andalusians should feel content after were trailing twice against Real Zaragoza with a two-goal difference (0-2 & 1-3) and ended getting a 3-3 draw, but at the same time they are dropped from the playoff zone.

Also Real Oviedo dropped points too; the Asturians drew with UD Las Palmas after a goal of Mir in the added time (1-1). The other Asturian club in the league is heating up in the decisive moment of the season, because Sporting Gijón beat CD Tenerife on the road (0-1) and are now only two points below the playoff zone after winning five of the last six games.

The battle for survival is also heating up too; the two points dropped by CD Lugo could be really expensive, especially since Extremadura UD and Gimnástic Tarragona won. Los Extremeños beat UD Almeria at home (1-0) and are now only one point below safety, while the Catalans surpassed CD Numancia (2-0) and remain with options. Meanwhile, Córdoba CF lost visiting Elche CF (1-0) and are back at the bottom.

MATCHDAY 34: MOMENT OF TRUTH
The moment of truth is starting to arrive for several clubs; Deportivo need to recover and have to visit leaders CA Osasuna, while runners-up Granada CF have to pay a visit to in-form Sporting Gijón. Neither third place Albacete Balompié face a placid weekend, because they have to visit an Elche CF that have won three games in a row.

There’s also a decisive game at the bottom with Córdoba CF hosting CD Lugo. Real Oviedo will add the three points for been the matchday in which they should face FC Reus and will try to re-enter into the playoff zone. The matchday is completed with other six games: Málaga CF Vs. Extremadura UD; UD Almeria Vs. Gimnástic Tarragona; Rayo Majadahonda Vs. CD Tenerife; CD Numancia Vs. RCD Mallorca; UD Las Palmas Vs. Cádiz CF & Real Zaragoza Vs. AD Alcorcón.
