REVIEW: DEPOR LADIES 2 – FERMAGUIN 0 (PLAYOFF)

13 May 2019
Two-goal lead for Deportivo in the final promotion series, the gals were totally superior facing a side that was only interested in wasting time and traveling back home with the smallest disadvantage.

Deportivo had the best of the starts, because after only three minutes Pekewas collecting the ball after Gaby headed a cross from the left, and she didn’t miss from close range. It was the ideal start in a two-leg series, but the enthusiasm started to vanish as the team pushed for more goals without finding the opportunities.

The locals were having the ball, but the opportunities to increase the lead weren’t arriving. The next one came until minute 25. It was a lateral free-kick action on the left in which visiting goalie Aco failed to collect the ball, it went into the far post, but Lía was unable to head it. The rest of the first half continued with a CD Femarguín that was content wasting time and a Deportivo that was unable to break the deadlock.

The second half started with Deportivo pushing for more, but having problems to create scoring opportunities. The first chance was a shot of Gaby blocked by Aco (52’). Three minutes later Alba attempted a volley from the edge of the area and Aco made the save.

A god chance to score the second came at minute 64, Cris released a cross from the right and Maya Yamamoto was unable to connect the ball at the box.  Michelle Romero and Michelle Romero entered the field as Deportivo were searching for more goals.

And the second goal arrived thank to one of the substitutes, Iris made the play on the left, she sent a low cross and the ball reached the path of Nuria Rábano at the left corner of the area, and she released a crossed shot past Aco.

Deportivo continued pushing for more goals and Gaby had the chance of the third goal, but his low shot into the near post from the right corner of the area was blocked by Aco (84’).  Clearer was the double chance of Peke after a counterattack led by Gaby, but his first shot was blocked and the second passed close to the far post (89’).

The second-leg match will be played on next Sunday at the Canary Islands. Deportivo have a two-goal lead. The winner of the tie will be promoted to Liga Iberdrola ahead of next season.
