Depor’s defender Iñigo López has been detained since Monday after been involved in the latest match-fixing scandal in Spain. It’s all related to suspicious things with SD Huesca and other clubs.

On Monday, a new match-fixing scandal exploded in Spain. Early in the morning it was informed that the police had detained six persons related to the case nicknamed Oikos. It all started at the end of last season at Segunda, it was matchday 41 and SD Huesca were already promoted to Primera and were hosting Gimnástic Tarragona, side that was still trying to achieve the permanence.

At half-time, the beating companies and La Liga were alerted of an unusual increase in the bets, according to the police report the amount of money was fourteen times the normal in these kinds of games, and all the money was bet in favour of a draw or a win by Nástic, in the end the Catalans won the game 0-1.

At least thirty beating companies closured the bets for that game before the final whistle and La Liga activated the match-fixing protocol, which included filling a report to the policed. The final report also included other seven games in which there were suspicious movements.

One year later the police was informing the details of the operation called Oikos they detected a group of people related to football that were obtaining benefits of €100,000 for each game, apparently the number of fixed games is 30 and includes games at Primera like the Valladolid against Valencia of this season and also Tercera matches.

What this bribery scheme was doing was to influence inside the teams taking advantage of the experience of former players, not only to lose or concede goals, but also to concede corner-kicks and other statistics that are allowed in the bets. The focus of the investigation is SD Huesca, but it also included clubs from Primera to Tercera.

The police reported that six people were detained, the leader of this organization is pointing to be ex-Real Madrid Raúl Bravo. Current Depor’s defender Iñigo López was also detained as he was at SD Huesca on last season. Recently retired Borja Fernández and former striker Carlos Aranda were also arrested.  The other two persons detained are the president of SD Huesca Agustín Lasaosa and the chief of the medical staff Juan Carlos Galindo Lanuza.

According to reports, there are 21 persons involved, including Getafe’s player Samuel Saiz and Carlos Caballero from Fuenlabrada CF, who weren’t arrested, but had to talk to the police. The six persons arrested, including Iñigo López, should be released in the following hours after talking to the police. The defender skipped the session on Wednesday and should be in Abegondo on Thursday.

Antena 3, Radio Cadena Ser and paper El Confidencial reported that the bribery scheme could have affected the qualification for the next Champions League and Europa League, because apart from the game Valladolid Vs. Valencia, it was also involved the game Huesca Vs. Valencia and Huesca Vs. Betis.

Deportivo haven’t released any statement regarding the situation of Iñigo López. New president Paco Zas said during the night he was elected that the club was aware of the situation, but that will talk to the player first before taking any measure. There isn’t any game of the Galicians involved in this scandal.
