PREVIEW: DEPORTIVO – CÓRDOBA (LIGA)

08 Jun 2019
Deportivo need the victory in order to certify the pass to the playoff; the rival arrives in the middle of chaos and with its coach hitting his players.

Referee: Iñaki Vicandi Garrido
Kick-off: 20h30 CET (Riazor)

STATISTICS: POOR STATS
Córdoba CF could end as the worst team at Segunda after FC Reus was disqualified, and the stats demonstrate why. The Andalusians are the worst defence with 77 goals allowed and are also the worst visiting team with only 9 points on the road. They only won once playing in this condition and it was in February: 0-2 at CD Tenerife.

Meanwhile, Deportivo need to copy the result of Cádiz CF in order to qualify to the playoff and at the same time watch what Real Oviedo do, but the best thing is to win this game to not depend on anyone else. The Galicians have added 35 points in 20 home matches, it’s only the 10th best mark in the league, but curiously it’s already better than the 33 points of the Segunda campaign 2013/14, the one of the last promotion to the elite.

Córdoba CF have visited the Riazor in 30 opportunities playing for a league competition and only won once, it was a 0-1 win for the Segunda season 2013/14. Of the remaining 29 games, they lost 26 and only added 3 draws.

DEPORTIVO: LAST STEP
There’s no tomorrow for a Deportivo that reached the sixth place in the previous matchday, the Galicians are aware that a victory is more than enough to reach the playoffs and wants to transmit  a sense of unity and calm despite the team barely had time to prepare the meeting after ben forced to play on Tuesday. The coach has scheduled a training session early on Saturday and picked all the players at the first team.

Team news: Quique González completed the session on Friday, but it’s unlikely that he will start the game after only completing one training within the last two weeks. Michael Krohn-Dehli was picked for the game, but he is the only man at the injury room. It’s expected that coach José Luis Martí is going to repeat the starting team that played at Elche CF.

Man to watch: Striker Carlos Fernández. Deportivo need goals in order to win and once again the Andalusian attacker is going to lead the charge. He wants to improve his number after only scoring once in the second round.

Picked players: (25) Dani Giménez, Adrián Ortolá (goalkeepers); David Simón, Eneko Bóveda, Domingos Duarte, Michelle Somma, Pablo Mari, Iñigo López, Diego Caballo, Saúl García, Sebastian Dubarbier (defenders); Edu Expósito, Álex Bergantiños, Didier Moreno, Pedro Mosquera, Vicente Gómez, Krohn-Dehli, Vítor Silva, Pedro Sánchez, Fede Cartabia (midfielders); Nahuel Leiva, Quique González, Carlos Fernández, Christian Santos & Borja Valle (attackers).

Predicted lineup: (4-4-2) Dani Giménez – Bóveda, Domingos Duarte, Pablo Mari, Saúl – Cartabia, Álex Bergantiños, Edu Expósito, Pedro Sánchez – Borja Valle, Carlos Fernández.

CÓRDOBA: CHAOS
The future of Córdoba CF is looking dark, and not only for the demotion to Segunda B. The club suffered a decrease in the salary cap for this season due to financial problems and was later unable to respond on the pitch. Now the financial future is uncertain and it’s not even clear who will be the owner as Jesús León still has to pay €4.5 million at the end of July to the previous owner.

Neither is clear who will be the sporting director for next season. Rafael Berges has a contract, but León already refused to confirm him on the job. And Rafa Navarro is almost sure that he won’t continue on the bench after only winning 2 of the 13 games with him on board.

And there’s chaos inside the changing room too. Before this game, Rafa Navarro complaining that some men don’t want to play the game and hinted that some are “simulating” injuries, while he also confirmed that academy players Blati Touré and José Ángel Carrillo are punished for lack of discipline.

Team news: Centre-back Luis Muñoz is suspended, then there are four men injured: Centre-back Álex Quintanilla (ankle sprain), left-back Luis Miguel Quezada (knock), playmaker Miguel de las Cuevas (adductor muscle) and midfielder Álvaro Aguado (muscle). In the end coach Rafa Navarro had to pick six players from the academy in order to fill the gaps: keeper Alberto González, midfielders Álex Carbonell and Antonio Moyano plus attackers Andrés Martín, Neftali Manzambi and Rafael González ‘Chuma’

Man to watch: Striker Federico Piovaccari. One of the few players that has responded on this season. The Italian is the top-scorer at the team with 12 goals added to his tally, 5 of those goals were scored within his 8 last presentations with the team.

Picked players: (18) Carlos Abad, Alberto González (goalkeepers); José Manuel Fernández, Miguel Loureiro, Alejandro Menéndez, Miguel Flaño, Chus Herrero (defenders); Jesús Vallejo, Yann Bodiger, Quim Araujo, Álex Carbonell, Javi Lara, Antonio Moyano (midfielders); Alejandro Alfaro, Andrés Martín, Federico Piovaccari, Neftali Manzambi & Rafael González ‘Chuma’ (attackers).

Predicted lineup: Carlos Abad - Fernández, Flaño, Vallejo, Menéndez - Bodiger, Javi Lara, Carbonell, Araujo - Alfaro, Piovaccari.
