Victory in an exciting game; Depor wasted a two-goal lead, but Christian Santos came out from the bench to win the match.

Coach Juan Antonio Anquela debuted with the expected formation for the game. It was a 4-3-3 system with Dani Giménez at the goal, Eneko Bóveda covered the right side of the defence, the left was for Diego Caballo. The central positions in defence were for Michele Somma and Vassilios Lampropoulos.

Álex Bergantiños, Gaku Shibasaki and Borja Galán performed at midfield. The trident in attack was composed by Ager Aketxe, Mamadou Koné and Borja Valle. New arrivals Peru Nolaskoain and Samuele Longo were on the bench despite joining the team during the week.

At Real Oviedo, coach Sergio Egea presented several novelties at his 4-3-3 formation, starting with the presence of Alfonso Herrero at the goal. Carlos Hernández was performing at the centre of the defence, while Marco Sangalli joined Saúl Berjón and Alfredo Ortuño in attack.

Good first part by Deportivo to launch the Segunda season. The Galicians didn’t show the same pressure of the Teresa Herrera, but they were the side that showed more will until finding the goal. Later Oviedo tried, but only found a dangerous Depor in the counterattack.

The game started with a low pace, by minute 5 Depor were already controlling the ball possession against a rival waiting at the back. The first approximation of the Galicians was a combination between Gaku and Borja Valle that didn’t find a receiver (5’).

Berjón and Ortuño were given problem to Depor, while the locals were focusing the attacks on the right through Borja Galán and Bóveda. Koné had the first opportunity to score with a shot from the left side of the area that missed the far post (15’).

Then Depor scored the first goal of the season. Borja Valle fired from the edge of the area, visiting goalie Alfonso Herrero deflected the attempt, the loose ball was collected by Koné, who scored from close range. The goal was initially invalidated by the referee due to an offside, but the VAR revision confirmed that the African attacker was well placed.

Oviedo tried to react and Mossa was close to score with strong shot that was deflected with the ball passing close to the post (25’).  The game became more equal, but Deportivo also started to find more empty spaces, mainly with the quick moved by Koné and Borja Galán.

Aketxe had the next opportunity with a low shot that was an easy catch for Alfonso Herrero (34’). There were no scoring opportunities within the last fifteen minutes. Depor found enough space, but the combinations between Gaku, Koné and Borja Galán were failing at the moment of the last pass.

The best part of the match was the second half; without doing too much Depor claimed a two-goal advantage, but Oviedo pushed and equalized. Anquela made late changes, but it worked as Christian Santos was the one that scored the winner.

The second part started with the same scenario that was saw at the end of the first part: Oviedo trying to have the initiative and Depor trying to take advantage of the counterattack. The first big chance was for the Asturians.

Saúl Berjón drilled the ball from the left and Ortuño made a small deflection, but only met the body of Dani Giménez and the loose ball was sent out after a new deflection (49’). Aketxe had his first chance in the half for the locals, it was an attempt after a free-kick, but he sent the ball out (51’).

And the Basque player was going to have a second chance and this time he scored. Koné got the ball at midfield, he assisted Álex Bergantiños, who passed the ball to Aketxe and the latter released a strong and low shot from outside the area and into the near post.

Oviedo were still trying to push and Ortuño had a new opportunity with a shot from outside the area that went close to the far post (59’). Depor were still having opportunities, at minute 63, a combination between Koné and Gaku allowed a shot from Caballo that went over the crossbar.

Depor seemed to have things under control, but then Oviedo pulled a goal. It was a lateral free-kick, Saúl Berjón released the cross from the left, Lolo González made a deflection and the ball ended hitting Somma past Dani Giménez.

Suddenly, Oviedo saw that the tie was possible and Saúl Berjón was close to score with a strong shot that hit the post (71’). And the equalizer arrived, Marco Sangalli released a high cross from the right and substitute Samuel Obeng was alone enough at the box to head the ball in.

Oviedo even had the chance to win the game after Sangalli collected a corner from the left, but his volley just went close to the far post (78’). Anquela reacted late and their substitutions only arrived when the game was tied. Samuele Longo and Christian Santos entered the field.

There was a lot of expectation to see Longo, but it was Santos who was going to win the game. The Venezuelan striker collected a pass from Lampropoulos, he was marked by a defender when he was backwards the goal at the edge of the area, but dribbled the opposition with a great chipping attempt, then released a low shot that hit the ground and that went into the near post.

Things became dramatic within the final minutes, Peru Nolaskoain debuted replacing Aketxe and Depor ended defending the result with ten men after Caballo suffered a bound in the face. Marco Sangalli had the last chance in a throw-in, but he sent the ball out (90+4’).

Depor repeated some of the sins of last season, but managed to get a victory at the last minute. It was an equal game in which the Galicians wasted a two-goal lead. Great debut for Gaku, Aketxe and Koné. Longo debuted at the end, but it was Christian Santos who rescued the victory.
