Incredible game at the Riazor. After a terrible first part, Depor had the game 3-1 at minute 88 and dropped two points after new defensive errors.

Coach Juan Antonio Anquela presented a 4-4-2 formation with Mamadou Koné and Christian Santos playing at the same time. Vicente Gómez was benched and therefore Depor returned to play with two centre midfielders.

Dani Giménez was the starting keeper, David Simón covered the right side in defence, the left flank was for Salva Ruiz. Vassilios Lampropoulos and Javi Montero were the centre-backs. Álex Bergantiños and Gaku Shibasaki were the centre midfielders, Víctor Mollejo attacked from the right wing, Ager Aketxe did it from the left, then Koné and Christian Santos played at the centre of the attack.

At CD Numancia, Luis Carrión sat Alain Oyarzun and Guillermo Fernández , therefore the attacking efforts were led by Gus Ledes, Marc Mateu, Moha Sanhaji, Curro Sánchez and Higinio Marín.

Exasperating first half for Deportivo, the Galicians did nothing within the first fifteen minutes, CD Numancia had five shots and scored a goal. Later Depor regained the ball, but lacked ideas and depth.

The game started with an ambitious CD Numancia, the visiting side pushed hard and surrounded Depor’s area with long ball possessions. The Galicians didn’t feel comfortable and the first chance to score arrived soon, Moha assisted Mateu and he sent the ball over the crossbar (10’).

And then CD Numancia found the first goal in the game. It was a corner-kick of Curro, Alberto Escassi found the ball inside the area; he failed in the first attempt and later didn’t miss in a second chance.

Deportivo didn’t react and CD Numancia continued dominating the actions, the visiting side requested a penalty for a hand of Montero inside the area after an attempt of Higinio, but the VAR didn’t concede it (19’).

At the middle of the half, CD Numancia had already completed five shots, while the first one from Deportivo came until minute 26. Víctor Mollejo released a cross from the right and Koné headed the ball out. Two minutes later David Simón assisted Mollejo and the winger missed the target firing from the edge of the area.

The game changes in the last stretch of the first part, Depor were now having the ball and the locals tried to attack, though the chances weren’t arriving. At minute 35, Koné missed the target firing from the edge of the area.

Depor could have improved since minute 26, but it didn’t have any clear chance to tie the game. Actually, CD Numancia could have scored the second at minute 44, this after Higinio didn’t connect properly a corner-kick from Curro, and David Simón cleared the danger at the goal line.

Hard to explain what happened in the second part, Depor surprised with a great game that pulled them to claim a 3-1 lead, but out of nowhere CD Numancia scored twice within the final minutes and added a deserved point.

Deportivo started the second part pushing in attack and found an early equalizer. Aketxe released a corner from the right and Víctor Mollejo found the way to head the ball at the penalti spot as a partner and a rival were arriving before him.

The game radically changed after the goal as the Galicians turned into a hurricane and the second goal arrived soon. Ager Aketxe fired a direct free-kick and visiting goalie Dani Barrio failed as he was unable to deflect the attempt after the ball hit the ground first.

The third goal was close to arrive in the same way, a new free-kick of Aketxe was poorly cleared by Barrio and Javi Montero found the loose ball and his final shot went out close to the post (58’).

Anquela ordered the first substitution and Vicente Gómez replaced Gaku. The Japanese had a grey game, but neither the Canarian midfielder improved the picture despite Depor weren’t suffering. The first chance for CD Numancia in the half came until minute 64, Mateu ended a counterattack for his side with a shot that missed the target.

The second substitution was the entry of Borja Galán for Christian Santos, Aketxe was now playing behind Koné in attack and Galán attacked from the left wing. The second change neither had a positive impact.

But Depor continued attacking and Aketxe had a new attempt, his shot was deflected and in the resulting corner-kick Mollejo was unable to capitalize a new bad clearance of Barrio (74’) Clearer was the header of Vicente after a cross of Galán and the ball missed the target.

Then Alain Oyarzun entered for CD Numancia, the same player that turned around the 2-0 of last season transforming it into a 2-2. And something similar was going to happen in this game. First, Aketxe had a new chance in a free-kick (79’), then he collided with Ayarzun and the visiting player was close to abandon the game for it. The play continued and the cross of Galán hit the hand of Derik Osede and the referee called the penalty.

Koné scored from the spot with a crossed shot and the Riazor turned into a party after the whistles heard at half-time. But the game was going to have a new and radical turn, because CD Numancia were going to score twice within the final two minutes plus the added time.

Beto da Silva entered for Aketxe and the defensive problems arose again. First substitute Igor Zlatanović released a cross and Derik Osede washed away his previous error heading the ball in. Then Koné committed a doubtful foul over Oayarzun and the Ivorian attacker saw a second yellow card. And Depor defended the resulting free-kick with ten men only to witness how the secondary play ended with Escassi scoring again after the low cross from Iván Calero.

New disappointment at the Riazor. Depor played a terrible first part, but had a great reaction in the second half to even deserve a big score. The Galicians were leading 3-1 at minute 88 only to drop two points with a poor mark that allowed CD Numancia to score twice.

Depor are now out of relegation only by the goal difference rule and on Saturday Los Blanquiazules have to pay a visit to Cádiz CF (Ramón de Carranza, 16h00 CET).
