PREVIEW: DEPORTIVO – ALMERIA (LIGA)

06 Oct 2019
End of the road for Anquela, a furious Riazor awaits a team that continues with its bad streak. The rival aspires to promotion, but has lost the last two games.

Referee: Gorka Sagués Ocoz
VAR Official: Rubén Ávalos Barrera
Kick-off: 18h30 CET (Riazor)

STATISTICS: THE WORST DEPORTIVO IN 30 YEARS
Deportivo have only added 7 points after 9 Segunda matchdays. It’s the worst mark in the second tier since the season 1987/88. At the time the Blanquiazul outfit had the same number of points, though with a different combination as the victories were worth two points. Right now, Depor have won only once, it added four draws and suffered four defeats. In 1987, the team begun with three wins, one draw and five defeats.

And the rival is another aspirant to promotion that’s coming in a bad moment. UD Almeria started the season with an impressive mark of five wins and two draws, but have lost the last two games: 1-2 Vs. Cádiz CF and 4-2 Vs. Sporting Gijón.

This is the 8th visit of UD Almeria to the Riazor. Los Rojiblancos have won three times in A Coruña, the last one a 0-1 in the Primera season 2014/15. The last home victory of Depor against this rival was on the Segunda campaign 2011/12 (3-1).

DEPORTIVO: CIVIL WAR
Sunday is going to be tough, and not only for what would happen on the pitch, but also for the expected reactions at the stands. The majority of the fans are upset with the direction of the club and will protest before and probably during the game with UD Almeria. Some peñas already released statements asking for the resignation of president Paco Zas and sporting director Carmelo del Pozo. In the middle of everything is coach Juan Antonio Anquela, the Andalusian coach is at the edge of destitution and not even a victory will certify his continuity.

Team news: Somma, David Simón and Mamadou Koné remain at the injury room, so Anquela has the same 19 men available that traveled to Gerona. Beto da Silva was ruled out for tactical reasons and the coach will make changes, starting with Peru Nolaskoain, who was tested as a centre-back alongside Javi Montero.

Man to watch: Midfielder Peru Nolaskoain. The Basque is now expected to perform as a centre-back, position in which Anquela always wanted to see him. It’s the latest measure to cut the bleeding of the worst defence in the league.

Picked players: (18) Dani Giménez, Koke Vegas (goalkeepers); Eneko Bóveda, Vassilios Lampropoulos, Javi Montero, Salva Ruiz, Luis Ruiz (defenders); Álex Bergantiños, Peru Nolaskoain, Vicente Gómez, Gaku Shibasaki, Borja Galán, Ager Aketxe, Saša Jovanović, Víctor Mollejo (midfielders); Christian Santos, Borja Valle & Samuele Longo (attackers)

Predicted lineup: (4-2-3-1) Dani Giménez – Bóveda, Nolaskoain, Javi Montero, Salva Ruiz – Álex Bergantiños, Gaku - Mollejo, Aketxe, Borja Valle - Longo.

ALMERIA: FIRST CRITICISM OF THE SEASON
It has been a weird start of season at UD Almeria. The club was expecting to be fighting for a spot in the playoffs, but the unexpected arrival of millionaire Turki Al-Sheikh changed everything and now the only goal seems to be the direct promotion. In this sense it isn’t surprising that there’s already criticism after losing two games in a row and despite the team is currently second at the standings. But the job of coach Pedro Emanuel isn’t in danger, the comments on him are positive as he arrived only weeks before the season started.

Team news: Since the team was playing twice in the north of Spain and in a frame of three days (the faced Sporting at El Molinón on Thursday), the club decided to make one single trip, so coach Pedro Emanuel picked the full squad and arrived on Saturday to A Coruña directly from Gijón. There are no injury concerns affecting the team.

Man to watch: Striker Sekou Gassama. The Senegalese striker was promoted from Almeria B after a great year (21 goals in 29 Tercera matches) and he is already yielding on the field. The 24-year-old attacker has scored five goals in nine meetings, including a brace against Girona FC.

Picked players: (23) René Hinojo, Fernando Martínez, Dragan Rosić (goalkeepers); Iván Martos, José Antonio Romera, Jonathan Silva, Iván Balliu, Nikola Maraš, Valentine Ozornwafor, Lucien Owona, Juan Ibiza (defenders); Sergio Aguza, César de La Hoz, Radosav Petrović, Valentín Vada, Gaspar Panadero, José Corpas, José Manuel ‘Chema’ Núñez, Ante Ćorić (midfielders); Sekou Gassama, Juan Muñoz &Darwin Núñez (strikers).

Predicted lineup: (4-2-3-1) René - Romera, Petrović, Maraš, Iván Martos - Sergio Aguza, César de la Hoz - Corpas, Vada, Gaspar – Sekou Gassama.
