LUIS CÉSAR IS THE NEW COACH

Luis César Sampedro is the new coach of Deportivo; he will join the trainings on Wednesday and signs a contract lasting until the end of the campaign.

Only one hour after announcing the exit of Anquela, Deportivo announced that the new coach will be Luis César Sampedro. The 53-year-old man is a recognized Depor’s fan with plenty of experience at Segunda, he signs a deal lasting until the end of the campaign. His first session with the team will be on Wednesday as the team is resting on Tuesday.

The career of Luis César at Segunda is extensive, he has been coaching since the year 2001 and has directed 8 different club in this league. He became noticed coaching Gimnástic Tarragona between 2004 and 2007, period of time in which he clinched the promotion with the Catalans to Primera.

His experience in the league is 425 matches with ups and downs, this since for been part of four promotions to the elite and four relegations to Segunda B. His last success was to be part of the Real Valladolid's squad promoted to Primera during the campaign 2017/18, though it was bittersweet as he was fired at matchday 35 with the team been 11th (He was replaced by ex-Depor Sergio). Last season he coached CD Tenerife for the final four matchdays and helped to secure the permanence after adding two wins and one draw.

Luis César is the eleventh coach at Deportivo after five years with former president Tino Fernández and after four months with Paco Zas. The previous men that sat on the Galician bench were Fernando Vázquez, Víctor Fernández, Víctor Sánchez del Amo, Gaizka Garitano, Pepe Mel, Cristóbal Parralo, Clarence Seedorf, Natxo González. José Luis Martí and Juan Antonio Anquela.
